This thesis presents research on Implementing Running Dictation in
teaching listening to the students of SMPN 1 Watampone. This study aims to
determine the use of running dictation in teaching listening. There are two variables
in this research. The dependent variable is students' listening comprehension. The
independent variable is the use of running dictation in teaching listening to the
students. This study used a quantitative method using pre-experimental research
with one group pre-test and post-test. Researchers used cluster random sampling.
The sample consisted of 27 students of class VIII CIBI SMPN 1 Watampone.
Researchers provide pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Data on students' listening
comprehension were analyzed using SPSS 22. The results of this study indicated
that students' listening lessons used running dictation, students had good listening
comprehension. This can be seen from the post-test mean score which is
significantly higher than the pre-test (87.22> 56.48). This can also be seen from the
results of the t-test showing 0.00 which is < a significant degree (0.05). It can be
defined that H0 (null hypothesis) is rejected, and automatically Ha (alternative
hypothesis) is accepted. Therefore, it can be said that implementing running
dictation in teaching listening is effective in increasing students' listening
comprehension.
A. Conclusion
The conclusions that can be seen from the results of this study, the average
score of the students' pre-test was 56.48. and the standard deviation in the pre-test
is 9,982 with a total of 27 students. While the average value of students' post-test is
87.22, and the standard deviation in the post-test namely 1,111 with a total of 27
students. (87.22> 54.48). based on the t value it is known that the t value is 14,320
and the t table value of 27 students is 1,705. so that t count 14,320 > t table 1,705
has a significant influence in implementing running dictation in teaching listening
to the students. Thus there is a significant influence on implementing running
dictation in teaching listening to the students, and it can be concluded that the better
the implementing running dictation in teaching listening to the students, the more
effective the learning will be for students.
B. Suggestion
The suggestions that the researcher wants to convey in this regard are:
1. For English teachers
It is hoped that it can provide information about the application of dictation
strategies in listening learning. They can apply this technique in class to achieve
teaching and learning goals in teaching English. Because this activity is quite
fun for students who might get bored in learning English.
2. For students
This research provides information about dictation strategies in teaching
listening, so that it can encourage them to improve their listening skills, solve
complex problems, think critically, and increase their motivation in listening.
3. For Other Researchers
as a reference or information in conducting research through running
dictation on listening subjects because this research contains several sources on
running dictation strategies in listening.
