Students’ Perception of Learning Vocabulary by Using Comic Book as a Learning Media at SMPN 2 Palakka

The purpose of this study is to determine students' perceptions of using
comic books as a learning media at SMPN 2 Palakka. This research uses
qualitative research. This study choose 10 students from class VIII B as
respondents on students' perceptions of using comic books. This study used field
observations and interviews to collect data. The results of this study were that
some students gave their perceptions of the use of comic books as learning media
in learning vocabulary. The use of comic books can attract the attention, interest
and enthusiasm of students in participating in the learning process. This is proven
based on the results of observations and interviews conducted during the research
that students like and feel happy because in comic books there are many pictures
and colors that make students interested in using comic books as learning media.
Students also argue that with pictures students can understand the meaning and
content of the conversation without knowing the meaning of the conversational
sentences in the comic book. Students also think that by using comic books
instead of regular books would make them more interested in learning.
A. Conclusion
The students have a positive and negative perception of the use of comic
books as a learning medium for learning vocabulary. It was proven by their
description that comic books made students more enthusiastic and active while
participating in the learning process. In addition, students also become more
focused on paying attention to the teacher when explaining the new vocabulary
contained in comic books. It can be seen when researcher carry is out field
observations. Students also become very enthusiastic in doing assignments and
are better able to answer questions given by the teacher. By using comic books as
a learning medium, students feel very happy because there are lots of interesting
pictures and there are also lots of colors. It can be seen during field observations.
The most important thing is that students' vocabulary is increased by using comic
books as a learning medium because like what students said during interviews in
comics there are lot of new vocabulary that they did do not know before, students
also said that comics can be understood without knowing the meaning of the
sentences. in comics because by looking at the pictures in comics students can
already understand the contents of the conversations in comic books.
B. Suggestion
Based on the findings described in the previous discussion, the researcher
has several suggestions for consideration for educators, students and schools.
a. For Students
It is hoped that students at SMPN 2 Palakkawill be more enthusiastic in
the learning process because the enthusiasm of students in the learning process
can encourage students to more easily understand the learning material that
educators provide so that it can help improve learning outcomes.
b. For Teachers
Comic book media can be used as an alternative learning media for
students because students can be active, innovative, creative, effective, and
happy.
c. For the future research
The development of comic book media as learning media can be used
for other materials. The development of comic book media is still very broad,
develop other learning comic media with more interesting for student learning.
