An Error Analysis of Simple Present Tense in Hortatory Exposition Text at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 3 Bone

This research was conducted to analyze the common errors of simple present
tense in writing hortatory exposition text made by the students and described the
causes of errors. The subject of this research was students of SMAN 3 Bone
especially at XI MIPA 1 consisted 10 students. In this research, the researcher
used descriptive qualitative method. After analyzing the students‟ error made by
the students, there were types of errors; they are omission and agreement of
subject and verb. Common errors found on the types was agreement of subject
and verb. The researcher stated that common errors appeared in agreement of
subject and verb. Mostly errors made by the students were caused by inter lingual
errors.
A. Conclusion
1. Based on the result of data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter,
the researcher concluded that students of SMAN 3 Bone at the eleventh
grade especially XI MIPA 1 were made errors in writing hortatory
exposition text In the types errors included omission and agreement of
subject and verb. The students made the common errors in agreement of
subject and verb.
2. The students made errors of simple present tense in writing hortatory
exposition text was caused by inter lingual errors and intra lingual errors but
in this research, the researcher found out the causes of the common
grammatical errors made by students was inter lingual error because the
usage of the mother tongue by the students who had not known the rules of
target language used the same rules as he obtained in his native language
and the students usually transfer the system of mother tongue into foreign
language that they learn.Many students made error caused of their mistake
to put the word in sentence, the students also wrote by using form of their
mother tongue, students often repeat their mistake by carelessness in
writing, sometimes the students did not pay attention in writing. The
students also often forgot the meaning, the form even mistake when they
were writing.
B. Suggestion
Error was something unavoidable in teaching and learning process of
foreign language. Therefore it could be improved by learn more about both
enhance vocabularies and grammatical function. Here were some suggestions that
hopefully applied in teaching and learning process.
1. For the English Teacher
From the recent findings showed that students still made errors in
omission and agreement of subject and verb. The lack knowledge about the rule of
writing was the one of many problems that caused students became confused in
written process, so they still made errors. The teacher should be able to increase
and improve their student‟s knowledge and their knowledge about simple present
in writing hortatory exposition text. The teacher also gave motivation for the
students to practice their ability in various aspects of English skill.
2. For the Next Researcher
Here, the researcher suggested to the next researcher could analyze the
types and the causes errors of simple present tense in writing hortatory exposition
text by the levels of language deeper and better than this research. Then the
different object such as the errors in the oral production or the error in the
students‟ task. The other researcher could analyze by using the different manner
and also the next researchers were expected to extend this research. So, the reader
had better and deeper understanding related to the study.
3. For the students
In English Learning, students were advised to follow the learning well.
Learning more about the rules of English especially in writing. The students also
should paid attention more about what the teacher explained about rules in
English. The students also could read more book to improve their knowledge
about rules in English.
