Code Mixing Analysis In Speaking Activities: A Study At T.I.M.E Club Of Hmps Tbi Of Iain Bone
Andriana Lestari Sukirman/02.15.4121 - Personal Name
This research aims to explore the types and levels of code-mixing the
members do when speaking activity at T.I.M.E Club of HMPS TBI IAIN. Those ten
members participated in this research. In taking the data, the researcher recorded the
members speaking activity process and transcribed those recordings. In this research,
the researcher explained all the data that have been found in speaking activity at
T.I.M.E Club of HMPS TBI IAIN Bone by using Hoffman’s theory about the types
of code-mixing and Suwito’s theory about the levels of code-mixing. The result of
this research shows that intra-sentential of code-mixing is the type of code-mixing in
the recording, and it is about 100%. In the bellow of intra-sentential of code-mixing,
there is intra lexical code-mixing and involving a change of pronunciation, the
Researcher did not find any data which are indicated as Intra lexical code-mixing
involving a change of pronunciation. Then, the result in the levels of code-mixing on
the recording. The data shows phrase level is the biggest level of code-mixing on the
recording with the percentage of 50%, word level with a percentage of 28%, and
clause level 22%
A. Conclusion
Based on the analysis had conducted in the research, the researcher found:
1. The types of code-mixing used by the members of T.I.M.E Club of HMPS
TBI IAIN Bone is Intra-sentential of code-mixing. In types of code-mixing on
the recording, there are 17 data from ten members at T.I.M.E Club HMPS TBI
IAIN Bone which had been found by the Researcher. The data shows that
intra-sentential of code-mixing is the type of code-mixing in the recording,
and it is about 100%. Meanwhile, Inter-lexical of code-mixing, and involving
a change of pronunciation did not find any data which are indicated as Intra
lexical code-mixing involving a change of pronunciation.
2. The levels of code-mixing used by the members of the T.I.M.E Club of HMPS
TBI IAIN Bone are word level, phrase level, and clause level. The data
showed phrase level was the biggest level of code-mixing on the recording
with the percentage of 50%, word level with a percentage of 28%, and clause
level 22%. Meanwhile, Baster level, repetition word, and idiom level did not
find any data which are indicated it.
B. Suggestion
Based on the findings and discussion of this research, the researcher
offered three points of an idea which are addressed to the English lecturers,
students, and the next researchers in terms of code-mixing, so that they have new
insight about it. The points were elaborated in the following
1. For Readers
For the readers who want to get a little bit of knowledge about code-
mixing in someone’s utterance especially in the types and levels of code-
mixing, the Researcher does hope that this research can help the Readers in
answering the questions which come to their mind. The Researcher thinks that
learning a new language is essential to face the modern era. There is a lot of
things that we can use in improving our ability in a new language are
magazine, book, and social media exactly on YouTube.
2. For the next researcher
For the next researchers, the researcher does hope that this research can
be useful as the reference if the next researchers want to conduct the research
about code mixing which is happened on someone’s utterance. It is much
better if the next researchers look for the appearance of code-mixing in other
media or the next Researcher can look for the phenomena of code-mixing in
magazines, books, social media, and education field, in order, there is the
distinction between this research and the next research.
