Teaching Vocabulary Effectively Through Word Building Media at SMPN 4 Cina

This research discussed teaching vocabulary effectively through Word
Building media at SMPN 4 Cina. This research used quantitative research and pre-
experimental design using pre-test and post-test. There are two variables in this
research, namely the independent variable and the dependent variable, while the
independent variable is Word Building as a media and the dependent variable is
teaching vocabulary Effectively. The population of this research were 63 students
of class VIII at SMPN 4 Cina for the 2022/2023 academic year. The research
sample was class VIII A consisting of 20 students taken from purposive sampling.
Thus this research only used one instrument, namely the vocabulary test. The
vocabulary test used in this research consists of 30 questions. Part A, translate the
words into Indonesian consisting of 10 questions. Part B, multiple choice consists
of 10 questions and part C 10 matching the words, which have been made by the
researcher. The results of this research, namely, the average value of the pretest was
55.35 and the posttest was 87.95. It is evident from the test results showing that
there is a significant difference between the students' pre-test and post-test. Where
the calculated significance value is 0.000 less than 0.05. And also, the t-test value
is higher than the t-table value so that (t-count 9,599 > t-table 1,729). It means that
H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, so that the use of Word Building is effectively
used as a media in learning vocabulary for students in the classroom.
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researchers concluded that the use of Word Building media was effectively
used in the vocabulary learning process for students in class VIII A of SMPN
4 Cina. It is evident from the test results showing that there is a significant
difference between the students' pre-test and post-test. Where the calculated
significance value is 0.000 less than 0.05. And also, the t-test value is higher
than the t-table value so that (t-count 9,599 > t-table 1,729). That means that
H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, it seems that the use of Word Building is
effectively used as a media in learning vocabulary for students in the
classroom.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion presented above, the researcher tries to give
some suggestions for English teacher, the next researchers and anyone who
read this thesis as follows:
1.For Education
Using Word Building in teaching and learning process is one of the
most effective learning media for English lesson or other lesson because it
can increase the students’ interest in learning.
2.For students
Using Word Building can increase the students’ interest in learning
and students activity.
3.For Teacher
For the English Teacher SMPN 4 Cina, Word Building is one the
learning media that can be considered in learning English especially on
students’ vocabulary mastery.
4.For School
For school, it is assumed that the implementation of word building
can increase students’ interest in learning so it is recommended to school
institution to maintain media or learning method in class so the students like
the subject.
5.For the Next Researchers
The results of this research can be useful as a reference for further
researchers that want to conduct further research on the effectiveness of word
building on students‟ vocabulary mastery especially in vocabulary test. Also,
the researcher hopes that the further researchers followed her to apply this
media not only for vocabulary mastery.
