The Effect Of Audio-Lingual Method Toward Students Pronunciation At SMA Negeri 9 Bone

This research aims to determine the improvement of students' English skills in terms
of pronunciation. This research was conducted using quantitative research methods
with Quasi-Experimental research. Data were collected from 54 students of class XI
(XI IPA 1 and XI IPA 2). 27 students were taken as the experimental class and 27
students were taken as the control class. Data collection is done by using a test; pre-
test and post-test as instruments. Tests were carried out to see whether the Audio-
lingual method had an effect on students' pronunciation. The results of data analysis
showed that in the pre-test the average value of the experimental class was only 32.22
and became 68.33 in the post-test. Whereas in the control class, the average pre-test
score was 35.19 and the post-test was only 32.41. This shows that the class that used
the Audio-lingual method as a treatment shows a significant increase.
A. Conclusion
After conducting research at SMA Negeri 9 Bone and after the data
has gone through the analysis process, it can be concluded that the Audio-
lingual method has an effect on students' pronunciation. This can be proven
by the fact that the average value of the experimental class has increased
significantly in the post-test scores, while the average value of the control
class has not increased. Post-test scores increased significantly in the
experimental class after being given treatment. In the pre-test experimental
class, the average score was only 32,22 and became 68.33 in the post-test
while in the control class, the pre-test average score was 35,19 and only 32,41
in the post-test. This shows that the class that uses the Audio-lingual method
as a treatment shows a significant increase.
Based on the results of the independent sample t-test, if the sig. (2-
tailed) 0.05, so
there is no significant difference between the learning outcomes of the
experimental class and the control class sig. value (2-tailed) is 0.001. This
shows that there are significant differences in learning outcomes in the two
classes because of the sig. (2-tailed) below 0.05. From these data it can be
concluded that H 0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. This proves that the Audio-
lingual method has a significant influence on students' pronunciation.
Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that there is influence
in the application of the Audio-lingual method to the English pronunciation of
class XI students at SMA Negeri 9 Bone.
B. Suggestions
Based on the following conclusions, the researcher suggests the
following parties:
1. It is recommended that the teacher use the Audio-lingual method to
improve students' English pronunciation.
2. It is recommended for teachers to use English more often in teaching so
that students get used to listening and often give speaking practice to
students.
3. Hopefully this thesis can be useful for researchers and readers. It is hoped
that readers will learn about the use of the Audio-lingual method in
learning and teaching English. It is hoped that future researchers will
conduct research to find other significance of the Audio-lingual method
and other learning methods that can improve students' English proficiency.
