Using YouTube video as a learning media to develop English speaking skill in high school context.

This research discussed about using YouTube video as a learning media to develop
English speaking skill in high school context. This research applied quasi-
experimental method with two group’ pre-test and post-test design. There are two
variables of this research; they are independent variable and dependent variable,
while the independent variable was YouTube video and dependent variable was
students’ speaking skill. The population of this research was the second year students
of SMAN 3 Bone Regency academic year 2022/2023 consisting of 253 students. The
sample of the research consisted of 72 students which were taken by using Purposive
Sampling technique; there were 36 students from XI MIPA 2 as experimental class
and 36 students from XI MIPA 1 as control class.
This research used only one instrument. That was the speaking test. Furthermore, that
instrument process was used pre-test and post-test. Moreover, the researcher collected
the data by assessing student’s pronunciation, accuracy, fluency, vocabulary and
comprehension. As the result, the data indicated that there was a significant
difference between students post-test in experimental class and control class. The
mean score of post- test (76,33) in experimental class was greater than the mean score
of post-test (74,22) in controlled class. From t-test, the researcher found that the value
of t-test (3.935) was greater than t-table (0.2319). Therefore, the researcher suggested
that The Use of YouTube is effective in teaching speaking.
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and discussion, the researcher concluded that the
use of YouTube videos in teaching speaking skills to eleventh graders of
SMA 3 Bone. This table show the average and standard deviation values of
students both in the post-test experimental and pre-test control using the
SPSS application. The average value of the post-test experiment was 76.33
and post-test control was 74.22. the standart deviation of the post-test
experiment was 9.090 and the post-test control was 5.772. After obtain the
average score the of the post-test experiement is higher than the post-test
control (76.33>74.22). Therefore, the using YouTube video develop speaking
skills as a learning media.
Therefore the calculated significance value one-sided p is 0.050
