Using Podcast As An Instructional Learning Media To Stimulate Indonesian Senior High School Students’ English Listening Ability

This research was conducted using podcast as an instructional learning
media to stimulate Indonesian senior high school student‟s English listening
ability. The researcher approach uses qualitative research. This study used one
basic class as a participant with twelve meetings. Data collection methods are
interviews, and questionnaires. Then, the data analysis used content analysis to
solve the research questions.
Based on qualitative data, the students' actions in the learning process have
increased. The results showed that there was a positive effect on students' hearing
using podcasts as a learning medium. At first, the students had difficulty
understanding the content of the podcast because their vocabulary was lacking.
They find a lot of vocabulary in podcasts. The student‟s then write down the
content of the podcasts they hear and translate the results they listen to so that they
understand and students make podcasts. Based on the results of interviews and
questionnaires show that the use of podcasts as a learning medium has many
positive impacts on students such as: students are more motivated in learning,
increase student vocabulary, increase student insight, make it easier for students to
listen, make students easier to pronounce. They also learn enthusiastically in
teaching and learning activities. Although students get some advantages, podcasts
are not very good, but they can be used to stimulate students' listening abilities. It
can be a note for future researchers to apply and research this podcast intensively
for listening skills.
A. Conclusion
Based on the results of the analysis and discussion in the previous chapter,
finally the researcher can conclude about the use of podcasts as learning media to
stimulate listening skills of Indonesian senior high school students as follows:
students feel happy when learning to use podcasts as learning media, they are also
enthusiastic about using podcasts as learning media because they can listen anywhere
and anytime. By using podcasts as a medium of learning, students are easier to
understand the material provided and easy to do the tasks given. Using podcasts as a
learning medium is perfect for student listening and helps stimulate students' listening
skills.
In basic knowledge of English, students need a lot of practice and use several
media that can help students learn English. Students need media that is interesting
and easy to apply and of course loaded on smart phones such as podcasts so that
students can easily learn anywhere and anytime. However, the researcher
recommends other applications for listening learning because sometimes podcasts are
spoken too fast, making it difficult for students to listen.
