Indonesian Junior High School Students in Learning Groups: Active Learning through English Conversation

The objective of this research was to find out the Indonesian teacher and Students'
perceptions of learning groups through English conversation. Applying qualitative
method with the implementation of descriptive research. Moreover, research
instruments such as observation sheet and recording are used to collect the data
from the participants of Indonesian Junior High School students and teachers by
applying the purposive sampling. This research showed the perceptions of teacher
and students about active learning through English conversation in learning
groups such as the students like the implementation of learning through
conversation, the effectiveness, making students more interactive, and disturbed
focus in class
A. Conclusion
From the results of the research that has been conducted, it can be
concluded that the teacher and students’ perceptions of Indonesian junior
high school of learning groups through English conversation produces
three perceptions. The perceptions are divided into two kinds of
perceptions, namely positive perceptions and Negative perceptions. The
positive perceptions are Students liked the implementation of the Group
Learning Method in the Classroom, Effectiveness of the Group Learning
Method, and Student becomes more interactive in class. While the
negative perception is students’ focus can be disturbed because of the
implementation of group learning method.
Related to the perceptions of teachers and students towards the
application of this group learning method shows the results in the form of
increased in its ability to foster active learning, critical thinking,
communication skills, and peer collaboration. By engaging students in
meaningful discussions and collaborative activities, group learning
enhances their overall academic growth and prepares them to become
proficient communicators and analytical thinkers in the study of English
language.
B. Suggestion
1. English Teachers
This research is expected to be a source of information for
English teachers related to the learning groups through English
conversation so that it can be taken into consideration in the teaching
and learning process in Junior High School.
2. Students
The research is expected to be able to provide motivation for
students to continue learning and innovate themselves to continue to
develop in language learning process in English Classroom in order to
increase the critical thinking, public speaking, etc.
3. Further Research
This research is expected to be a reference and source of useful
information for future research related to teaching process and English
language.
