The Application of Learning Model in Talking Stick by Using Short Story Text Toward Students Reading Achievement at SMPN 1 Cenrana

The researcher conducted a study on “The Application of Learning Model in Talking
Stick by Using Short Story Text Toward Students Reading Achievement at SMPN 1
Cenrana”. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the used of this
learning model of talking stick developed reading achievement before treatment and
post-test was given atfter treatment to determine the increase in students reading
achievement. The researcher used simple random sampling, the researcher chose a
sample of one class consisted of 10 students. They were second grade students of
SMPN 1 Cenrana. The result of this study showed that there was a significant
improvement in students reading achievement, this could be proven by the value of
sig. (2-tailde) is 0.00 < 0.05. this indicates that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected.
It was assumed that there was a significant difference between the students reading
achievement after being giving treatment. This was evidenced by the high avarge
score of the post-test students compared to the pre-test
A. Conclusion
Based on the analysis of the data, the hypothesis, and the discussion in the
previous chapter, the conclusion can be drawn that talking stick using short story text
can improve students reading achievement at eighth grade students of SMPN 1
Cenrana in the academic year of 2021/2022. This statement proved by t-test. The Sig.
(2-tailed) was 0.000 < 0.05. Then, the result of the score of the students was mostly
increase from the pre-test to the post-test after given treatment. It proved by the
increasing of the mean score. The mean score before given treatment was 40,0 while
after give treatment is 79.3 It categorized as good. In addition, the result of the t-value
was 19.813. Then, the researcher consults the critical value on the t-table using the
5% (0.05).
B. Suggestion
Based on the research finding, the researcher tries to give some suggestions
after finishing this study. The suggestions were listed below:
1. For English Teacher
a. The English teacher should choose the most appropriate method in
teaching learning process especially in teaching reading.
b. The English teacher can used talking stick model in teaching learning
process as the alternative method.
c. The English teacher must prepare the method and the material well before
teaching.
d. The English teacher can apply this method to make the students more
interested with the materials in learning process. The teacher should
motivate their students.
2. For the Students
a. The students should pay attention the teacher explanation.
b. The students should be active in teaching learning process and are not
afraid to English lesson.
c. The students should be more active in participation in teaching learning
process to build their knowledge.
d. The students must study hard to improve their reading achievement.
3. For Other Researcher
Knowing that the application of learning model in talking stick by using
short story text can improve students reading achievement, the researcher
suggests to the other researchers used this research as the reference of their
further research. Hopefully, the result would be more useful to improve the
English learning process.
