This research aimed to know the perception and practice regarding plagiarism in
bachelor thesis. It employed descriptive qualitative method, while the participants
were the students of a university in Indonesia. The data were collected through the
questionnaire and interview. In the data of 10 items questions in students’
questionnaire list and 6 items of the interview list, there is 3 perceptions and 4
practices regarding plagiarism in bachelor thesis. The conclusion is the students
thought plagiarism is inappropriate but difficult to avoid. In this line, the students also
thought that the problem is their lack understanding in thesis writing guidelines, and
often found their theses were detected plagiarized in some types in their part of the
chapter in their thesis while they have tried to avoid plagiarism practices.
A. Conclusion
In this research there was two instruments to gained the data and have
been analyzed. From the instruments the researcher found that the data found to
answer two research question about what are the students' perception regarding
plagiarism in bachelor thesis, and what are the students' practices regarding
plagiarism in their bachelor thesis.
The students' perception regarding plagiarism was similar, they only
thought that the practices of plagiarism is inappropriate and a crime to do but in
the same time was difficult to avoid even though they have tried to avoid it.
The students' practices regarding plagiarism in bachelor thesis was similar,
the students usually found the practices of plagiarism in their background of their
bachelor thesis, and the type of plagiarism they usually found was word for word
plagiarism, and copy-paste plagiarism.
B. Suggestion
1. For Students
The students should realize the affect of plagiarism practices in their
bachelor thesis, and there are a lot of way to avoid plagiarism practices could
be use for the students.
2. For Other Researchers
The other researcher should found more references about plagiarism
that happened in the students' paper especially in the students' bachelor
thesis, because there were a lot of practices in plagiarism that happened to
nowadays student.
