The Effectiveness Of Using Missing Lyric In Teaching Listening Of The Eleventh Grade Student At SMAN 12 Bone

The aim of this thesis is to find out the effectiveness of using missing lyrics in
listening. This thesis uses quantitative research deals with experimental design with
pre-experimental by giving pretest, treatment six times and posttest to find out
whether using English songs using missing lyrics can be used effectively or not in
teaching listening to students. The researcher took the eleventh grade of SMAN 12
Bone with a sample size of 40 students. The researcher used 30 questions in pre-test
and post-test. The listening test in the pre and posttest is different but had the same
level of difficulty. In the treatment, the researcher used the missing lyrics in English
song lyrics to determine the students' listening skills. The results of data analysis are
accepted because the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted, because the Sig.
(2tailed) was 0.000 is smaller than the significance level (0.000 < 0.05). The result of
the students’ mean score before and after treatment, the mean score obtained by the
students in the post-test (77.32) is greater than the mean score of the students in pre-
test (38.97). It means that the mean of post-test is higher than the mean of pre-test, so
that there is significance difference of students’ score before and after being taught by
using Missing lyrics. It can be infers that using missing lyrics in teaching listening is
an effective.
A. Conclusion
Based on the output during the research at SMAN 12 Bone and explained in
the search and discussion of data analysis presented in chapter IV, the researcher
would like to draw the following conclusions: the first conclusion is that the missing
lyrics are significantly effective in teaching listening to the class students of SMAN
12 Bone. This can be proven by the results of the pre-test and post-test. In the pre-test
the average score was 38.97 and in the post-test the average score greatly increased to
77.32. The second conclusion is the missing lyrics strategy is the right method to
teach listening because it can help students to understand the text in English songs by
doing some steps in this method. That's the response of students during the learning
process using the lost lyrics method is more positive because they are more
concentrated and interesting in learning listening.
B. Suggestion
To improve students' listening skills, the researcher put forward some
suggestions, as follows:
1. Teacher
English teachers can use English songs in teaching as a medium to
develop students' listening ability. By using the missing lyrics the teacher can
motivate students to listen.
2. Students
Students can learn English easily by using English songs. Most students
in high school seniors always say that English is difficult. Nowadays, most of the
teenagers like to listen to English Songs and the students are very curious about
the lyrics. By searching some messages about that song and writing it, it will help
students to learn English.
3. Readers
Readers of this thesis can find the best way to teach English, especially by
using English Songs. Currently singing English songs is "booming" so the researcher
hopes all readers to find other "boom" media that can improve students’ skills.
