The Use Of English Singsing Youtube Channel As A Learning Media In Learning English Vocabulary

This study aims to know whether there is any significant difference in
students‟ vocabulary achievement that learnt through the English Singsing YouTube
Channel with students who learnt through the conventional way. The data was
collected from 44 students from eight grades of junior high school. This research
employed a quasi-experimental design. This type of research involves two groups,
with an experimental group and a control group. The mean score in the pre-test
showed 42,00 (Control Group) and 41,82 (Experimental group) and the significance
value of the t-test 0,937 > 0,05, which means that the research could be continued to
the treatment because both the control group and the experimental group had the
same level of vocabulary achievement because there was no significant difference in
the pre-test between the experimental groups and control group. Then, the result of
data analysis in the post-test after treatment showed that the mean score of the control
group was 71,82 and the experimental group was 79,85. The t-test also showed that
the significance value of the t-test was 0,003 < 0,05 after checking the normality and
homogeneity of the data. It meant that the result was rejected null hypothesis or the
use of English Singsing YouTube Channel as a learning medium in learning English
vocabulary was able to be used because there was a significant difference between
students‟ vocabulary achievement who were taught English vocabulary using the
English Singsing YouTube Channel and students who were taught English
vocabulary using the conventional way.
A. Conclusion
The pre-test scores of control group (22 students) and experimental group
(22 students) which focus on English vocabulary test showed that the mean score
of control group was 42,00 and experimental group was 41,82 tested using t-test
(Independent t-test in SPSS ver.26) then found the significant t-test (0,937) which
higher than the significance level (0,05). Thus, the data identified did not have a
significant difference and the research could be continued to the treatment.
The treatment of control group was learning English vocabulary through
conventional way, using a text book as a learning media. While, the treatment of
experimental group was learning English vocabulary through English Singsing
YouTube Channel, using YouTube video from English Singsing YouTube
Channel with the support of a laptop, LCD projector, and Bluetooth Speaker
which could help students to watch the video clearly and listen to the vocabulary
offered from the YouTube video of English Singsing YouTube Channel. The
treatment was conducted sixth times for both group before did the post-test.
Then, The post-test scores of control group (22 students) and experimental
group (22 students) which focus on English vocabulary test showed that the mean
score of control group was 71,82 and experimental group was 79,85 tested using
t-test (Independent t-test in SPSS ver.26) then found the significant t-test (0,003)
which lower than the significance level (0,05). Thus, the data showed there was a
significant difference indicated from the post-test of the control and experimental
group. Although there was an improvement in the English vocabulary
achievement after the treatment of control and experimental group, the mean score
and t-test from post-test showed that there was a significant difference found. In
conclusion, there was a significant difference between students’ English
vocabulary achievement that learnt through English Singsing YouTube Channel
with students who learnt through conventional way.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion above, the researcher put some suggestion as
follows:
1. For Teacher
The teacher should applied media to support the learning process such
as from YouTube’s lesson video, especially teaching English Vocabulary
using English Singsing YouTube Channel videos to make students interested
and improve their achievement.
2. For Students
The students should realize that learning vocabulary is important
while using a language to communicate, and realized that YouTube is one of
a media that can help them learn vocabulary in different theme such as in
English Singsing YouTube Channel lesson videos.
3. For the Future Researcher
For the Future researcher, it can be the references for research about
using YouTube as a learning media in learning English vocabulary. Although
it is not perfect, then the future researcher can find more innovative way in
using YouTube for learning English especially in English vocabulary.
