Using Whatsapp As An English Learning Media To Support Indonesian Junior High School Students’ Pronunciation Skill

This study was conducted to find out how to support students'
pronunciation skill through the use of WhatsApp as an English learning media and
What are students’ perceptions the use of WhatsApp as a media for learning
English in students' pronunciation skill. The researcher used a qualitative research
approach. This research used one class as a participant with six meetings and used
3 Phases, namely, the first Pre-Class Observation Phase, the second During the
Class-Observation Phase and the third After the Class-Observation Phase. Data
collection methods are observation and interviews.Then, the data analysis used
thematic analysis to solve the research questions.
Based on qualitative data,students' perceptions ofthe use of WhatsApp as a
media for learning English in students' pronunciation skill during these activities
students experienced many obstacles such as limited quotas making it difficult to
follow lessons, lack of understanding instructed by the teacher, and also other
difficulties that made them consider the use of WhatsApp in English lessons
ineffective. WhatsApp is not optimal, teacher should usedWhatsApp by taking
advantage of the available features and making various kinds of learning
variations that can attract students' interest in the learning process so that it can
attract students' interest in learning.
A. Conclusion
Based on the results of the analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concluded that the teacher must has a strategy in using WhatsApp as an
English learning medium to support students' pronunciation skill, take advantage of
the features available on WhatsApp such as document sharing, video sharing, voice
notes, and the teacher can share videos containing songs, games or movies related to
pronunciation to make class more fun. Students' perceptions of the use of WhatsApp
as a media for learning English in students' pronunciation skill during these activities
students experienced many obstacles such as limited quotas making it difficult to
follow lessons, lack of understanding instructed by the teacher, and also other
difficulties that made them consider the use of WhatsApp in English lessons
ineffective.
B. Suggestion
In basic knowledge of English, there are many useful suggestions for students
to help pronunciation in learning English and students need a lot of practice and use
some media that can help students learn English. Students need media that is
interesting and easy to apply and of course loaded on smart phones such as learning
through the WhatsApp application so that students can easily learn anywhere and
anytime. However, the researcher recommends another method for learning English
because sometimes students have difficulty with quotas and networks in using
WhatsApp, so that it slows down learning a bit.
The researcher also expects this research can give advantages and source of
knowledge as information especially for English education. Besides that, this thesis is
far from being perfect, because of that; constructive critics and advice are really
expected to support this thesis in the future.
