Implementation of Rewards Toward Students’ Motivation and Achievement in English Learning at the Tenth Grade at SMKN 1 Bone

The aim of this research is how implemention of rewards toward student
motivation and achievement. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research as
the method of this research. The data of this research were collected by primary data
and secondary data. The researcher used inquire as a tool of data collecting and the
participants of this research were 34 students of X OTKP 2 at SMKN 1 Bone. The
result of this research showes implementation of reward applied were applause and
giving point. and students’ more enthusiastic, fun, happy, exciting, students are more
motivation, diligently and spirit to study. It means that rewards motivate student to be
more productive by creating a feeling of pride and achievement. In conclusion,
implementation of rewards can icrease the students’ motivation and achievement.
A. Conclusion
Implementation of rewards toward students’ motivation and achievement in
English learning in this school had some form of reward. Based on the result of the
research, it could be concluded that the researcher found the implementation of
rewards towards students motivation and achievement in English learning at the tenth
grade at SMKN 1 Bone. Kinds of the rewards that implemented were giving
applouse, point and school supplies from the teacher to the students because the
student has shown success for his efforts. The teacher should use the external rewards
in the term of informing rather than controlling so the students will not rely on the
rewards to improve their motivation and achievement in learning.
Some of students were unmotivated when the teacher use applause and appraisal
system, especially when it was implemented to often. The teachers role in
implementing these strategies was important, the teacher should pay more attention in
selecting the appropriate situation and how the teacher implements them.
B. Suggestion
After concluding the data based on the research finding, the researcher
would like to propose some suggestions for students and for institute. The
researcher hoped, at least, it could become an input to improve implementation of
rewards toward students motivation and achievement to developed teaching English.
1. Students should increase their participation, should be more active, high self-
confidence during the teaching learning process that are used by the teacher and
impress that English learning is for skill and not only knowledge so the students
needed practice to improve it.
2. The teacher should have good communication with the student during the teaching
learning process
3. The school should give the facilities that are need in teaching learning
process, provide the collection of English book in the library and support good
activities to advance the students skill.
4. The researcher hopes that the reader can criticize this research because the
researcher realizes that this research is still far from being perfect.
