No image available for this title
This thesis discusses the implementation of the Group Investigation model
in teaching argumentative writing at MA As Adiyah Mattirowalie. The purpose of
this study is to describe how the Group Investigation model is applied, as well as to
identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting students’ ability to write
argumentative texts. This research is a descriptive qualitative study with
pedagogical and sociological approaches. The data collection techniques used
observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis applied qualitative
data analysis with three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion or
verification. The results of the study show that 1) The implementation of the Group
Investigation model enhances students’ focus, collaboration, critical thinking, and
argumentative writing skills through stages such as topic identification, task
planning, investigation, report writing, presentation, and evaluation. 2) The benefits
and obstacles in using the Group Investigation model in teaching argumentative
writing in grade eleven at MA As Adiyah Mattirowalie include internal and external
challenges. Benefits include high student motivation, good group cooperation, and
strong teacher support, which help students participate actively, organize ideas, and
stay focused. Obstacles include internal challenges, such as differences in abilities
and ineffective discussions, and external challenges, such as limited facilities and
resources. These challenges are managed through teacher guidance, clear task
division, collaboration, and creative use of available materials, ensuring the learning
process remains effective and students can produce logical and persuasive
argumentative writing.
A. Conclusion
From the research and discussion, several conclusions can be drawn as
follows:
1. The implementation of the Group Investigation model in teaching
argumentative writing in grade XI at MA As Adiyah Mattirowalie is carried out
systematically, starting from identifying topics and organizing students into
groups, planning tasks, conducting investigations, compiling final reports, and
continuing to presentations and evaluations. At each stage, the teacher acts as a
facilitator, guiding students in selecting topics, finding credible sources,
analyzing data, constructing arguments, and presenting results clearly and
systematically. Meanwhile, students benefit from a better understanding of the
topics, improved teamwork skills, increased confidence in expressing their
opinions, and the ability to produce argumentative writing that is structured,
logical, and effective.
2. The benefits and obstacles in using the Group Investigation model in teaching
argumentative writing in grade eleven at MA As Adiyah Mattirowalie include
internal and external challenges. Benefits include high student motivation, good
group cooperation, and strong teacher support, which help students participate
actively, organize ideas, and stay focused. Obstacles include internal challenges,
such as differences in abilities and ineffective discussions, and external
challenges, such as limited facilities and resources. These challenges are
managed through teacher guidance, clear task division, collaboration, and
creative use of available materials, ensuring the learning process remains
effective and students can produce logical and persuasive argumentative
writing.
B. Suggestion
1. English Teacher
It is recommended that English teachers continue to optimize the
implementation of the Group Investigation model by providing clear guidance,
assisting students in selecting topics and credible sources, and encouraging
active participation from all group members. This approach will further enhance
students’ argumentative writing skills.
2. Students
Students are encouraged to be more proactive in discussions, collaborate
effectively, and make optimal use of available learning resources. In addition,
students should develop their analytical skills and ability to construct arguments
so that their writing becomes more structured, logical, and persuasive.
3. Future Researchers
Future researchers are advised to explore the application of the Group
Investigation model in other subjects or by including additional variables, such
as learning motivation and student creativity. This can provide a more
comprehensive understanding of the model’s effectiveness in improving
argumentative writing skills.
