The Use of Grammarly Application to Analyze Students‟ Vocabulary Mastery in Writing Narrative Text in Senior High School

This research aims to see how the Grammarly application analyze students‟
vocabulary in writing narrative texts and determine students' perceptions of the
application in one of senior high in Bone. This researchused a qualitativemethod and
uses a purposive sampling technique where the sample taken, as many as ten
students. The research instruments are observation, writing test, questionnaire, and
documentation. After that, the researcher made a transcription, namely data reduction,
data display, and data verification on the findings of this research. The results of this
study indicate that based on the observation data (data analysis) and questionnaire
that have been conducted, students have difficulty in using their vocabulary. It is due
to the lack of students' vocabulary. However with the help of the application students
find it helpful in writing. According to students using the Grammarly application is
very helpful, and use the application in the future because the application is easy to
reach. It can be accessed for free and premium (for perfect results).
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and discussion above, the researcher can draw
conclusion about the use of Grammarly application to analyze students’
vocabulary mastery in writing narrative text in senior high school.
1. The students analyze their vocabulary mastery in writing narrative text
In the structure of writing English, there are still many students who
do not understand the structure of writing well. So, they tend to translate the
sentence word by word. These limitations are influenced not only by a lack of
understanding of sentence structure but also by the students’ limited English
vocabulary.With the Grammarly application, that can check errors in writing
English, such as providing recommendations for the right words if there are
wrong words in the structure of the English language, students minimize their
writing errors.
2. Students’ perception about using Grammarly application
In accessing the Grammarly application, most students find it easy to
apply Grammarly, starting from the login stage to the stage where students
check their assignments on the application worksheet. While some students
were constrained when logging in, but there were no difficulties that students
felt when copying their assignments in the application worksheet. Even
though the application that students access is free and does not provide 100%
correct results, students still think about using the application in the future.
Because students feel their assignments are much better than before using
Grammarly.
B. Suggestion
After closing the conclusions and conducting the research, the researcher
has several suggestions for English teachers, students, and the next researchers.
1. For English teachers
Suggestions for teachers, hopefully in future teachers can apply them
well in the future by using Grammarly application in teaching writing. And
hopefully in the future teachers can be more creative in choosing and using
learning media such as Grammarly application in writing so that students can
be more motivated to learn writing.
2. For students
Suggestions for students, in learnimg English especially writing that
students can be more enthusiastic and more motivated to learn writing using
Grammarly application in writing (narrative text.)
3. For the next researchers
Suggestions for further researchers, hopefully this research can be
useful as a reference for further researchers and can develop further research
that wants to conduct further research on the use of Grammarly application to
analyze students’ vocabulary mastery in writing narrative text.
