The Influence Of Pre-Service Teacher’s Strategies To Reduce Indonesian Junior High School Students’ Speaking Anxiety In Teaching Practicum

he purpose of this research was to determine the sources of students‟ anxiety and the effect
of pre-service teacher‟s strategies in reducing students' speaking anxiety. This research used
qualitative research with a qualitative descriptive type. Sampling in this research used a
purposive sampling technique, where the sample was selected by taking 10 students. In data
collection, this research used two data collection procedures, namely: direct observation and
interview. Then the results of the data were analyzed using descriptive text analysis. Based
on the results of observations regarding the source of student anxiety, it can be stated that the
source of students‟ anxiety comes from students' internal factors which include students' lack
of vocabulary mastery while students' external factors include instructions given by the
teacher. Students also had two types of anxiety, namely trait anxiety and state anxiety. While
the results of interviews about the effect of applying pre-service teacher strategies stated that
the drilling strategy, role-play strategy, group work strategy, presentation strategy, and show
and tell strategy applied by Pre-service teacher had a positive influence on students, namely
students were more confident and gained more vocabulary and how to pronounce them.
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and results of research that has been carried out, both
from observations and interviews, it can be said that student sources come from 2
types, namely internal sources, and external sources. Speaking that comes from
students' internal factors, namely mastering vocabulary. And the external factor
of students is the teaching or instruction given by the teacher. Students also have
two types of anxiety, namely trait anxiety and state anxiety. The results of
interviews with students found that five strategies applied by the pre service
teacher to reduce students’ anxiety had a positive influence.
B. Suggestion
After closing the conclusion and conducting the research, the researcher has
several suggestions for teachers, students, and further researcher. Suggestions for
teachers, hopefully in the future teachers can understand the situation of students
and it is hoped that teachers can also apply appropriate learning strategies in
carrying out a learning process so that students do not experience excessive
anxiety in learning English. Suggestions for students, it is hoped that students can
be more enthusiastic and believe and students can use these strategies to overcome
or reduce students anxiety levels in speaking in the sense of being able to speak
well and fluently so that they can overcome things that previously became
students' obstacles in speaking and suggestions for further researcher, hopefully,
this research can be useful for anyone who becomes a reference in increasing
researchers' knowledge about strategy.
