The Effectiveness of “Cake” English Learning Application In Developing Students Listening Skill

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness and students' views
on the cake application in developing students' listening skills. This study used mixed
method, namely quantitative research and qualitative research to obtain data on the
effectiveness of the application researchers used pre-experimental with one group pre-test
and post-test design, then to obtain data on the use of the application researchers used an
interview approach. Researchers used cluster sampling. The sample of this study
consisted of 20 students of class XII MIA 1 SMA Negeri 14 Bone. Sampling to get
students' opinions in this study used purposive sampling technique, where the sample was
selected by taking 10 students. In collecting data, this study used two data collection
procedures, namely: giving pre-test, giving treatment and interview. Then the data results
were analyzed using SPSS and descriptive text analysis.
The results showed that the use of cake application in developing students'
Listening skills was effective. This can be seen from the comparison data between the
mean scores of the post-test which is significantly higher than the pre-test
(40.2000>28.2000). This means that, there is a significant difference after the treatment.
This shows that, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0)
is rejected. Then the researchers concluded that the use of the cake application in
developing students' listening skills according to the students' own opinions was fairly
effective and according to the students they experienced significant development from
before and after using the cake application.
A. Conclusion
Based on the results and analysis of the discussion in the previous chapter,
the researcher concluded the following:
1. Students' competence in listening skills before using the cake application
and after using the cake application, this can be seen from the average
score of students in the pre-test of 28.2000 and in the post-test of 40.2000.
That means cake application is effective to develop student’s listening skill
2. All students who were used as interview sources thought that the cake
application had developed their listening skills, and they thought they
would continue to use the cake application as a support for learning
English, especially Listening.
B. Suggestion
Taking into account the above conclusions, researchers believe that the use
of Cake Application in developing students' listening skills can be further
enhanced by considering the following suggestions;
1. Teachers should provide guidance and motivation to students so that
students can learn English well, especially in using the Cake App.
2. Teachers should look for or develop some techniques and media in
teaching and learning listeing to increase students' competition in
achieving excellent results.
3. Teachers should use the cake application more often in listening learning.
4. Students should use the cake application more often in their spare time to
develop their English skills, especially Listening.
