The Effectiveness Of Grammarly Application Toward Students’ Writing Skills In Descriptive Text At Senior High School In Bone

This research was aimed to know whether the use of Grammarly is effective for
students’ writing skills in the eleventh grade Senior High School context. In this
research, the researcher applied a quantitative approach and employed a Pre-
experimental design that one-group pretest-posttest design. The population of this
research was the eleventh grade students of Senior High School context. The sample
of this research consisted of 30 students of the XI MIPA class which was taken by
using simple random sampling technique The results of this research showed that the
use of Grammarly was effective toward student’ writing skills in ordering English
words at the eleventh grade of Senior High School context. The result of this research
was the mean score obtained by the students through the pre-test was 55.33 and the
post-test was 80.83. The t-test value was higher than t-table (28.158 > 1.699). It
meant that, this had a significant difference between the results of the students’ pre-
test and pots-test. Therefore, hypothesis H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. It
could be said that the use of Grammarly was effective toward students’ writing skills
in ordering English words at the eleventh grade of Senior High School context.
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and the discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concluded that the use of Grammarly was effective toward students‟
writing skills in ordering English words at the eleventh grade of senior high school
context in Bone. It was proved from the result of the test showed that there was a
significant difference between students‟ pre-test and post-test. Where the
calculated significant value was 0.000 less than 0.05. And also, the t-test value
was higher than the t-table value (t-test 28.158 > t-table 1.699). It meant that the
H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted, it seemed the use of Grammarly was
effective toward students in ordering English words.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion presented above, the researcher tries to give some
suggestions for English teachers, the next researchers, and anyone who read this
thesis as follows:
1. For the English Teacher
It is recommended for English teachers to use Grammarly as a
learning method, especially learning writing because using Grammarly in
teaching writing can help to correcting grammatical errors easily and
Grammarly provides a good way for writers to correct their writing and also
shows how to make corrections.
2. For the Students
The researcher hopes that this research can help students to correct and
identify language errors in students and motivate them to learn grammar,
spelling, and punctuation in writing using Grammarly.
3. For Future Researcher
For future researchers, it is recommended to conduct research on
writing that has not been included in this research, and use Grammarly in
other cases and at different levels of students. In addition, it is recommended
to conduct research with a different approach or design.
