The Benefits Of Digital Literacy Toward The Students’ Interest In Reading At Eleventh Grade Students Of Sma Negeri 21 Bone

The main objective of the research is to find out the benefits of digital literacy toward
the students‟ interest in reading at eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 21 Bone.
The researcher applied qualitative research. The researcher used this method because
the researcher focused on the benefits of digital literacy toward the students‟ interest
in reading. The main instruments in collecting data in this research are observation,
interview and documentation. The researcher interviewed 5 students from 27 students
at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 21 Bone. The data from observation aimed to know
the students‟ interest in reading, while the data from interview was intended to find
out the benefits of digital literacy. The findings of the research showed that there are
the benefits of digital literacy toward the students‟ interest in reading. Digital literacy
increase a students understands of reading. More effective, save time, expand
information quickly and up to date. Digital literacy can make learning easy because
students can find anything they wanted. Students can also learn in a relaxed manner,
felt cool and not pressure because there are many lessons students got that made they
are not bored. However, there are new results found by the researcher regarding the
benefits digital literacy there are access the online library and means of
communication.
A. Conclusion
After doing research, the researcher can conclude there are the benefits of
digital literacy toward the students’ interest in reading based on the result of
observation and interview.
Digital literacy had many benefits. Based on the result of the research,
students had some interest in reading used digital literacy. There are 8 benefits of
digital literacy toward the students’ interest in reading namely; save time, learn faster,
save money, make it safer, always get the latest information, always connected,
makes happier, and influence the world. There are 2 new results found by the
researcher regarding the benefits of digital literacy which is the novelty of this
research, namely access the online library and means of communication.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusions above, the researcher would like to give suggestions
to readers and especially for teachers, students and researchers:
1. For teacher
For teachers, reading is very important because by reading we can get
a lot of information, but reading will not be done if there is no interest in it.
Therefore, teachers must instill an interest in reading for student, including
by utilizing digital literacy.
2. For students
For students, in addition to fostering an interest in reading through
digital literacy, students must use digital literacy as well as possible.
Students must be able to take the positive things and not use it for negative
things.
3. For the next researcher
For the next researcher, the researcher hopes that the next researcher
can prepare everything as good as possible in conducting the research and
can do the follow up of this research. However, it is hoped that the next
researcher can take advantage of digital literacy in the teaching and
learning process well.
The researcher also expects this research can give advantages and source of
knowledge as information especially for English education. Besides that, this thesis is
far from being perfect, because of that; constructive critics and advice are really
expected to support this thesis in the future.
