Using English Viral TikTok Songs in Teaching Vocabulary on Students Learning Motivation at SMAN 15 Bone

Vocabulary learning is critical for students learning English. The teacher must
be capable of effectively conveying the material. The Teacher must also use
appropriate media to increase students' motivation to learn vocabulary. The purpose
of this study is to analyze how students' motivation in learning vocabulary by using
English viral TikTok songs as a media in teaching. The qualitative descriptive
research method was used by the researcher in this study. The sample was chosen by
using the purposive sampling technique by the researcher. The researcher chose class
XIMIPA1 as participants, which consisted of 32 students. The researcher used three
types of instruments to collect data: a questionnaire, an interview, and documentation.
In the questionnaire technique, the researcher used a closed questionnaire with a
Likert scale model. The interview format in this study is structured interviews, also
known as in-depth interviews, in which the question structure has been
predetermined. The researcher used three major phases of data analysis: through data
reduction, data display and conclusion drawing or verification. Based on the findings
of this study, English viral TikTok songs encourage students' motivation in learning
vocabulary. The results of student questionnaires and interviews revealed a good
response to the use of English viral TikTok songs as a learning media; in this case,
students were delighted to learn English by using viral TikTok songs. TikTok as a
media for learning vocabulary motivates students to learn because students enjoy
listening and singing songs, because the songs used are frequently listened to by
students, so it is easy for students to find new vocabularies and memorize various
vocabularies that students find. English viral TikTok songs that motivate students to
learn vocabulary can be considered current learning media. Students demonstrate the
positive impact of English viral TikTok songs as a learning media.
A. Conclusion
Based on the results of data analysis and discussion of this research, it can
be concluded that using English viral TikTok songs encourage students' motivation
in learning vocabulary at SMAN 15 Bone. Thus, it can be said that English viral
TikTok songs significantly encourage students' motivation to learn vocabulary.
TikTok is a popular app among students; every student in XIMIPA 1 has the
TikTok app. The most appealing aspect of using viral English viral TikTok songs
is that the songs used as learning media are the songs that students frequently
listen to while watching videos on TikTok. So that students do not feel unfamiliar
with the songs they listen to. Furthermore, by using songs, students can sing
together, make them more enthusiastic, and they can be happy, and active in class.
That is why they are eager to learn and encourage their motivation. However,
sometimes students have difficulty in listening to the vocabulary contained in the
song. Nevertheless students feel enjoy by using English viral TikTok songs as
media in learning vocabulary.
B. Suggestion
To improve teaching and learning activities, the researcher eventually
wants to offer some suggestions to those involved in English education as follows:
1. For English teachers, the researcher suggest using learning media that are
familiar to students, in this case things that can make students interested in
learning. The researcher suggests teachers use English viral TikTok songs in
learning activities, especially those that focus on vocabulary. English viral
