Think In English As One Of Strategy In Creating Better Performance In Speaking Skill Of Students At IAIN Bone

This research aimed to find out how is the student‟s perception regarding
on thinking in English as one of strategy in supporting student‟s speaking
performance. This research used a qualitative research and used an observation
and interview as an instrument for collecting the data.
Based on the observation, the researcher found there was a problem that
the students face in English speaking class that the students still lack in self-
confidence because of some factors such as the students lack of vocabulary and
sometimes the students got worried to make mistake while speaking. Therefore,
the researcher thought it was something appropriate to introduce thinking in
English as one of strategy to the students and as one of option to practice their
speaking skill.
In this research, for the first time the researcher explained the definiton of
thinking in English and how to apply thinking in English in their daily life to give
better changes in their speaking skill. After that the researcher asked the students
to apply thinking in English at least in one week before the researcher interview
the students about how the students perception after apply thinking in English.
Based on the result of the student‟s interview, all of the students gave their
positive perception about thinking in English. They said thinking in English as a
good strategy to improve their speaking skill and also can increase their
vocabulary. Therefore, all of them said thinking in English as an effective way to
give better changes in their speaking skill.
A. Conclusion
Based on the research, the researcher would make conclusion
based on the result of the observation field notes and interview towards the
students.
1. Students had a good attention while learning English in the
classroom. But the problem was that the students still lack in
self-confidence when they wanted to speak in English because
of some factors such as the students lack of vocabulary and the
students got worried to make mistake while speaking.
According to the students interviewed after the researcher
introduced thinking in English strategy as one of solution of
their problem in speaking skill such as the result of the
observation in critical speaking class and after the researcher
asked to them to apply thinking in English at least in one week
before the researcher interviewed 10 students about their
perception regarding on thinking in English as one of strategy
in supporting student‟s speaking performance.
All of the students gave their positive perception about thinking
in English in supporting their speaking performance. Based on
their interviewed 9 students did not know about thinking in
English, and just 1 student that had known about thinking in
English before. But all of them said after aply thinking in
English there were better changes in their speaking skill. Also
all of them acquired that thinking in English as an effective
strategy to improve their speaking skill.
B. Suggestion
Based on the findings of this research, the researcher can give
some suggestions can be taken as a consideration for the English learners
and also for the English teacher.
1. For the English teacher
The researcher suggested that the English teacher can introduce
and suggest to the students to apply thinking in English as one
option that the students can apply to practice their speaking skill.
2. For the English learners
The researcher suggested that the students can more often to apply
thinking in English in their daily life to practice their speaking
skill. In addition, if the students can not apply thinking in English
in a whole day but at least they can apply this thing 10 or 20
minutes in every single day. I think it is more effective to improve
their speaking skill.
