This thesis presents research about the analysis of students vocabulary
mastery in reading narrative text at the tenth grade of students SMKN 4 Bone.
This research used a qualitative method. Sampling in this study using purposive
sampling technique, where the sampling technique is to take one teacher and ten
students. The data was collecting by interview and documentation. This research,
researcher analyzed by reduction, display, and verification. The aims of this
research is to find out the students’ vocabulary mastery in reading narrative text.
Based on the result of data interview and documentation have found that there are
3 categories; good, fairly good, and fair. The researcher states that vocabulary is
more contributive in helping the students comprehend narrative texts.
A. Conclusion
Based on the discussion, the researcher draws the conclusion of the students’
vocabulary mastery in reading narrative text. The researcher concluded that the
students’ vocabulary mastery in reading narrative text could be said fairly good.
Because students of SMKN 4 Bone are accustomed to memorizing vocabulary, both
common and contained in the narrative text students already know some of the
vocabulary contained in narrative text. Students are also used to narrative texts that
students generally get on social media as well as print media or storybooks in
Indonesian.
1. Based on the results of the interview that have been found, how are the students’
vocabulary mastery in reading narrative text. The first is based on the results of
interview with the teacher, students' vocabulary mastery in reading narrative text is
categorized as fairly good, teachers analyze students' vocabulary mastery by
looking at students' understanding of narrative texts, and for students who have
insufficient vocabulary mastery, guidance will be given in the form of memorizing
vocabulary to compiling texts. The second is based on the result of interviews with
the students, students' vocabulary mastery can be categorized as fairly good,
although there are some students still having difficulty in understanding the
content of narrative texts.
2. Based on the document of students’ learning outcomes in reading narrative text, it
can be concluded that as many as five students have a good mastery of vocabulary, as
many as three students are categorized as having a fairly good mastery of vocabulary,
and two students are categorized as having fair mastery of vocabulary.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion above, the researcher will give suggestions to all
readers and especially teachers and students:
1. For the teacher
Advice for teachers, I hope this research can provide more motivation so that
students can be more active in learning. Teachers must familiarize students with
memorizing vocabulary to support their English skills, and when reading narrative
texts students understand more easily because they have a good mastery of
vocabulary.
2. For the students
The students should learn more about English. The students must improve their
abilities, the students must learn more actively to improve their mastery of
vocabulary. Thus, students can easily improve all their skills. Especially in reading
a text, when students' mastery of vocabulary is good, students will more easily
understand what they are reading.
3. For the other researcher
Especially subsequent researchers must start from now to learn about the
research methodology, and hopefully, this research can be a reference to make
other research related to this research.
