Correlation Between Students’ Reading Interest and Students’ Reading Comprehension Ability at Eighth Grade of MTS Yapis Pattiro Bajo.

The script presents research about the relationship between students’ reading
interest and students’ reading comprehension ability at eighth grade of MTS Yapis
Pattiro Bajo. This research aims to find out the improvement of students’ reading
interest and students’ reading comprehension in reading text by narrative text. There
are two variables in this research. The dependent variable is reading comprehension.
The independent variable is Reading interest.
This research used quantitative method. Which used with test and
questionnaire. The sample consisted of 25 students from the VIII A of MTS Yapis
Pattiro Bajo. The data on the students reading interest and students reading
comprehension ability were analyzed by using SPSS 21. The result of this research
showes that the coefficient correlation states students have good ability in reading. It
can be seen from the comparison data between the mean score of reading
comprehension states significantly higher than reading interest (49,20>78,00). So, it
can be concluded that by students reading interest and students reading
comprehension ability are known good.
A. Conclusion
Based on the data analysis and the discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concludes that:
Besides, the results of the test also shows that the correlation between
students’ reading interest and students’ reading comprhension of MTS Yapis Pattiro
Bajo is in the category is enough correlation. It means that the students’ reading
interest has important role especially in increasing students reading comprehension.
Therefore, the students should focus in improving students’ reading interest in order
to increase the students reading comprehension optimally. As the result, their scores
going up significantly. The students just gained the mean of 49,20 in the reading
interest, were able to increase their score up to the mean of 78,00 in the reading
comprehension.
B. Suggestion
In view of the fact that the method of students reading interest and students
reading comprehension using by narrative text, the researcher would like to give
suggestions as follows:
1. For the students
a.The students should read more English literary book to enrich their ability in
english
b. The students should pay attention to the english teacher when she/he explain
the lesson in the classroom.
c.The students must start to use English in their communication
2. For the teacher
a.It is suggested to english teacher focus on increasing students’ reading interest
b. It is suggested to english teacher to provide more materials in improving the
students’ reading comprehension.
3. For the researcher. It is suggested that other researcher may use the research
results as information or a reference to conduct the research with the similar
topic in the same design about the students reading interest and students
reading comprehension.
4. For the school
a.The school should provide some more english books to be read by students, so
they can increase their interest in reading
b. The school should provide another facility for students to practice their
english competency.
