An Analysis Of Students’ Anxiety at the Second Grade Of Man 1 Bone

This research aims to know the students’ speaking anxiety. The subject of
this research is the second grade of MAN 1 Bone. In choosing the subject, the
researcher takes it by using purposive sampling way. The researcher chooses XI
Bahasa as the subject of this research and the researcher just takes 10 students from
the class. This research used descriptive qualitative design. Technique of data
analysis consists of observation and interview. The observation focuses to find out
the students’ speaking anxiety. Thus, interview focuses on finding the students’
difficulties in speaking. The result of observation showed that some of the students
anxiety during their speaking. There are some the aspect of assessment. They are the
students feel afraid, the students worry about grammar, the students need more time,
the students feel nervous, the students did not have many vocabulary, the students
turn down their sound, the students feel shy, the students often use the word “eee”,
the students avoid the eyes contac with their friends directly when they speak
English. Based on the students’ interview, the researcher got the data that most of the
students face some factors anxiety when they speak English. There are the factors
admitted by the students. They are lack in vocabulary, grammar, need a concept,
embarrassed/nervous, and less idea. The factor anxiety faced by most students is lack
in vocabulary.
A. Conclusion
Based on the discussion, the researcher draws conclusion of the
students’speaking anxiety. According to the research findings, the researcher
concludes that there are 6 students anxiety in speaking because of less vocabulary.
The common error occurs is the students cannot develop their ideas because lack of
vocabulary. It means some of the students anxiety when their speaking.
Based on the students’ interview, the researcher concludes that students
face 5 difficulties when speaking. They are lack in vocabulary, grammar, need a
concept, embarrassed, and less idea. The difficulty faced by most students is lack in
vocabulary. There are 6 students said that lack in vocabulary is their problem. The
researcher assumes the difficulties occurs because of the students do not have high
motivation in learning English. It makes them lack in vocabulary, having low self-
confidence, and less practice particularly speaking.
B. Suggestion
Considering the conclusion above some suggestions are presented in this
part. This research will hopefully contribute both practical and theoretical values.
Realizing that the students feeling anxious and also face some difficulties in
speaking, in this research the researcher would like to give some suggestions to the
teacher, the students and the other researcher.
1. For the teacher
The teacher should pay attention to the students’ vocabulary and give
them more exercises to speak often. The teacher also maight be give the
students motivation by being the example for the students.
2. For the students
The students should learn more about English. Improve their skill in
English, not only in speaking but also all the skills in English. The students
have to pay attention to their anxiety so they know which part to fix. To face
the students’ difficulties, the students’ should motivate their selves first. Then,
study frequently wherever they are.
3. For the other researcher
For the other researcher, this research could be a reference to make
another research related to this research. The teacher might be able to use
another speaking technique in evaluating the students’ speaking skill.
