This thesis present the research about the use of cloze procedure in improving
reading ability at eighth grade SMPN 1 palakka. This research uses quantitative method
by using experimental design.In this thesis, the researcher used cluster sampling. To
take the sample of the research,the researcher choose VIII A class that consist of 20
students.The researcher gave pre-test, treatments, and post-test. The data on the
students’ reading abilitywere analyzed by using SPSS 21. The students’ was given pre-
test, treatment and post-test by using cloze procedure technique. This result of this
research showed that the students have good reading ability. It can be seen from the
comparison data between the mean score of pos-test was significantly higher than pre-
test (88.00>59.25). So, it can be concluded that by using cloze procedure technique,
students’ reading ability are known good.The data analysis shows the result of sig. (2-
tailed) of paired sample t test (0,000) is smaller than 0,05. It mean there is a significant
improving in students’ listening comprehension result after applying cloze procedure
technique.
Based on the findings above, it could be concluded that cloze procedure
technique can improve the students’ reading ability.
A. Conclusions
Based on the data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concludes the result of this research show that the cloze procedure
technique can improve students reading ability. Based on the problem statement, the
result of data analysis after being compared to the t-table (2.093) with t-test (16.603).
This cloze procedure very useful to all students to improve the students’ reading
ability, H 1 is accepted.
B. Suggestion
In view of the fact that the cloze procedure can improve students reading
ability, the reseacher would like to give suggestions as follows:
1. The teacher could use cloze procedure as references in teaching reading ability.
Therefore, the students were always stimulate the students’ interest and motivate
them in learning reading. Also The teacher should be creative moreover, the
education system needs them to improve the teaching skill according to the up
to date technology. Now days, the internet is widely used by lots of people.
There are many websites that can be accessed to get new technique in teaching.
The equipment also should be sophisticated and functioned perfectly to the
students in class.
2. The students of VIII A of SMPN 1 Palakka have to improve their ability in
English.
3. The other researcher is suggested that other researcher may use the research
results as information or a reference to conduct the research with the similar
topic in the same design the use of cloze procedure in improving reading ability
with different subject.
