Indonesian Madrasah Tsanawiyah Students’ Perception Toward English Visual Vocabulary Application Use As Mobile Assisted Language Learning

This research was conducted to find out Indonesian Madrasah
Tsanawiyah students’ perception to English visual vocabulary use as mobile
assisted language learning. The researcher used qualitative research approach and
critical action research as research design. Seven students from the eighth grade
students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah School in Tonra became participants of this
research. English visual vocabulary application was employed as a study tool
using at their home. The students were evaluated on their perceptions of English
visual vocabulary application as mobile assisted language learning using
questionnaire and semi-structure interview questions. Then the data analysis used
analysis content to find out students’ perception. The findings of questionnaire and
interview showed the students gave the positive perceptions. The students agreed
the English visual vocabulary app as an interesting app used to enhance their
vocabulary ability because consists of many interesting features and easy to use.
Even though there are some pictures depiction in English visual vocabulary
application that make student confused, student still consider this app as a fun and
interesting application in mobile phone to learn vocabulary. According to the
students as participants, there is an enhancement in vocabulary ability after using
the English visual vocabulary app. The findings are based on the four themes
studied, namely perceived usefulness, effectiveness, easiness, and attitude toward
using English visual vocabulary application as mobile assisted language learning.
Furthermore, English teachers could select the same app as teaching media that
consists of interesting features to help the students reduce their difficulties in
learning English vocabulary.
A. Conclusion
Based on the results of the analysis and discussion in the previous
chapter, finally the researchers can conclude about the MTs students’ perception
of the use of English visual vocabulary application as mobile assisted language
learning as follows: students though this application as an interesting app for
vocabulary learning that can enhance their vocabulary ability. Students felt happy
and fun when using the English visual vocabulary app to learn English
vocabulary because of interesting features provides by this app. Students though
this app is interesting because giving benefits learning anytime and anywhere, it
means students can learn vocabulary through this app in their mobile phone
whenever and wherever they want. Students believed the English visual
vocabulary application can enhance their vocabulary ability. The conclusion are
based on the four themes studied, namely perceived usefulness, effectiveness,
easiness, and attitude toward using English visual vocabulary application.
To master English language, students need to learn vocabulary as the
basic access or fondation to the language. To learn vocabulary, students need an
interesting learning media or method to increase their spirit and motivation to
learn. As is the case with students’ perception, the researcher recommends
English visual vocabulary application use in the school as learning media for
vocabulary learning to help the teacher to increase students’ vocabulary
knowledge.
B. Suggestion
In view of fact that the MTs students’ perception of the using of English
visual vocabulary application giving a positive results, so the researcher would
give some suggestion as follows:
1. For teacher
Researcher hopes that teacher can help students to find ways to reduce
students’ difficulties in learning English vocabulary. For example, teacher
can provide interesting learning media or method to learn vocabulary like
the English visual vocabulary application. This app consists of various
interesting features that can make students interesting to learn vocabulary
and reduce their difficulties. Researcher hopes that teacher can use this
application in the classroom to teach students English vocabulary as an
additional learning for English language subject.
2. For the students
The English visual vocabulary application provides opportunities to learn
vocabulary anywhere and anytime. Researcher hopes that students
routinely using this app to learn English vocabulary to improve their
vocabulary knowledge. Students can study vocabulary if they have free
time. This app is suitable for the students who have a bad network,
because this app can be used offline.
3. For the next researcher
For the next researcher, it is suggested to use the research result as
information or as a reference to conduct the similar researches with app as
MALL in enhance students’ vocabulary ability. Researcher hopes to next
researcher to find out the other application as MALL that can reduce the
students’ difficulties in vocabulary learning and conduct it in a research.
