Applying Wordless Picture Book as a Learning Media in Narrative Text to Enhance Students’ Writing Ability at Smpn 6 Watampone

This research discusses about Teaching Writing through Wordless Picture
Book in Narrative Text at nineth grade students‟ of SMPN 6 Watampone. This
research aims to find out the enhance of students‟ writing skill through wordless
picture book in narrative text. There are two variables in this research. The
dependent variable is enhance students writing ability writing skill in narrative
text. The independent variable is wordless picture book. This research used
quantitative method which used pre-experimental research with one group pre-test
and post-test. The researcher used cluster sampling. The sample consists of 28
students from the IX.A of SMPN 6 Watampone. The researcher gave pre-test,
treatments, and post-test. The data on the students‟ writing skill were analyzed by
using SPSS 21. The experimental group was given pre-test, treatment and post-
test by using wordless picture book. The result of this research shows that after
teaching writing through wordless picture book in narrative text, the students have
good skill in writing. It can be seen from the result of t-test showed showed 0,915
which was < significance degree (0,05). It can be defined that H0 (null
hypothesis) is rejected, and automatically H1(alternative hypothesis) is accepted.
It is also shows by the mean score of post-test was significantly higher than pre-
test (64,28> 48,82). Therefore it can be stated that by using wordless picture book,
students‟ writing ability in narrative text are known good.
A. Conclusion
Based on the data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concluded that using a wordless picture book as a media in teaching
writing enhance students‟ writing skill in narrative text. After using wordless
picture book, there was a significance difference in students‟ writing skill. It
can be proved by seeing the mean score and standard deviation of pre-test and
post-test. The mean score of pre-test is 48,82 and standard deviation of pre-test
is 9,30 While, the mean score of post test is 64,28 and standard deviation of
post-test is 9,60. Furthermore, the t-test result showed 0,915 which was <
significance degree (0,05). It indicated that H1 was accepted and H0 was
rejected. It means that there was a significant different the students‟ wrting
skill in pre-test and post-test after giving treatment through wordless picture
book.
In conclusion, the uses of wordless picture book as a media in teaching
writing enhance students‟ writing skill in narrative text at the nineth grade of
SMPN 6 Watampone
B. Suggestion
Based on the research results and conclusion, the researcher would like to
give suggestions as follows:
1. For the English teacher must be creative in managing material that must be
integrated into the classroom.
2. For the other researcher. It can suggested may use as an additional reference
for further researches. Moreover, it is expected to conduct further researches
in different areas and topics.
