The title of this research is An Analysis The Compatibility Between Representation of
Multicultural Values in EFL textbook for Junior High School The Ninth Grade and The 2013
Curriculum Goals: Content Analysis. This study aims to know the compatibility between the
content of multicultural values in the EFL textbook and the 2013 curriculum goals. This
discourse study looks at the cultural content of EFL textbooks that are adopted nationally in
Indonesia and then analyze how the compatibility of them with the 2013 curriculum goals.
This study findings the types of multicultural values and the compatibility between the
content and the 2013 curriculum goals by using content analysis and document analysis.
Based these method and instrument, it can be concluded that the multicultural values
presented in the EFL textbook are the value of mutual respect, the value of unity, the value of
cooperation, and the value of tolerance. The content of multicultural values contained in the
EFL textbook is sufficient in accordance with the 2013 curriculum goals, namely to prepare
humans who are religious, productive, and can contribute to the life of society.
A. Conclusion
The multicultural values represent in the EFL textbook are 10 contents in
the form of text, namely 8 texts present the value of mutual respect and 2 texts
present the value of unity. There are 19 contents in the form of dialogue represent
the multicultural values, namely 12 dialogues represent the value of mutual
respect, 4 dialogues present the value of unity, and 3 dialogues represent the value
of cooperation. There are 8 contents in the form of pictures represent the
multicultural values, namely 5 pictures represent the value of mutual respect and 3
pictures represent the value of tolerance.
The compatibility between the representation of multicultural values in the
EFL textbook and the 2013 curriculum goals is contained in the nine contents of
the EFL textbook used in grade 9 in junior high school entitled "Think Globally
Act Locally", namely five content based on aspects of preparing productive
humans, two content based on the aspect of preparing humans who are able to
contribute to social life, two content based on the aspect of preparing faithful
humans, and twenty eight content based on the aspect of affective.
B. Suggestion
Considering the conclusion above some suggestion are presented in this
part. In this study, it is hoped that multicultural values can be conveyed to
students in order to meet all aspects of student needs. With the consideration that
students can better understand and accept any cultural differences that will be
encountered in the future
