Motivating English As A Foreign Language (Efl) Learners In English Through Short Story As An Assisted Learning Tool In Virtual Classroom Context

This thesis presents research on motivating English as a foreign language
(EFL) learners in learning English through short story as an assisted learning tool in
virtual classroom. This study uses a qualitative method. The sample consists of 5
students at SmpNegeri 1 Tonra. The purpose of this study was to find out the element
of short story can make motivate students to learn English and to determine of the
short story motivating student to learning English.
This thesis is intended to find two problem of motivating students through
short shory at SmpNegeri 1 Tonra. The first problem is tofind out the elements of
short story can make motivate student to learn English. Based on the results, the
elements of short story can make motivate student to learn English There are 4 the
elements of short story can make motivate student to learn English, and from 4
elements of short story there are 2 the elements of short story was dominan chosen by
students make motivate student to learn English, namely the element character and
background. The second problem is short story motivate student to learn English.
Based on the result, the short story help spelling in English, then increase student
English vocabulary, beside that reading a short story as intertaining when student
have free time and teach other value positive.
A. Conclusion
Based on the discussion, the researcher concluded the result of
interviews. The researcher concluded there are several the element of short
can make motivate student to learn English and short story motivating
students to learn English.
1. There are 4 the elements of short story can make motivate student to learn
English, and from 4 elements of short story there are 2 the element of
short story was dominan chosen by students make motivate student to
learn English, namely the element character and background.
2. And then, the short story motivate the student to learning English because
the short story help spelling in English, then increase student English
vocabulary, beside that reading a short story asintertaining when student
have free time and teach other value positive.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion above, the researcher will give suggestion to
all readers and especially for the teacher and student.
1. For the teacher
The English teacher must have a strategy when teaching in the
classroom so that students will be more active and do not feel bored when
learning English and the teacher provides good English teaching and during
the learning process the teacher provides examples of reading to students to
improve English language skills students.
2. For the students
The students should study English more actively and enthusiastically
to improve their English skills.
3. For the other researcher
Especially for future researchers, it is better to start from now on to
learn about research methodology and this research can be a reference for
making further research related to this research.
