This thesis discussed “Analysis of Students Vocabulary Mastery in the Tenth
Grade of SMAN 25 Bone”. The objective of this research is to know students'
vocabulary mastery and to find out the difficulties of students. This research used the
descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research is eleventh students of
SMAN 25 Bone. The researcher used a Vocabulary test and interview to collect the
data. In analyzing the data the researcher used data reduction, data display, and
conclusion/verification. The result of this research showed that the students‟
vocabulary is still very low. The student thought that vocabulary was not easy to
understand because the student frequency in learning vocabulary is still seldom, but
they realize that learning vocabulary was important to understand. Based on the
interview the researcher found that the student had some difficulties in learning
vocabulary they were difficult in pronunciation, understanding the meaning and
translating, and some vocabulary had the same written but different meaning.
A. CONCLUSION
The researcher draws conclusions based on the results of data findings and
discussion in the previous chapter.
1. The student still had a very low vocabulary, the student did not mastery
vocabulary. It can be seen from the result of the test that showed 45% of
students got very poor, 36% of students got category poor, and 9% got
category fair and 9% got category good, the mean score of students
vocabulary is 37.27. The results of the interviews found that students did
not mastery. The students think that vocabulary is not easy to understand
because the student frequency in learning vocabulary is still seldom, but
they realize that learning vocabulary is important to understand
2. The difficulties of students in vocabulary mastery are almost all students
have difficulties in pronunciation, understanding the meaning, and
translating, and some vocabulary had the same written but different
meaning. The factor that causes students difficulties in vocabulary mastery
is, the different forms of writing and pronunciation, different words but
sound similar pronunciation, not familiar in hearing English words, and
easy to forget.
B. SUGGESTION
Based on the finding, the researcher had some suggestions for teaching
English, students, and the next researcher as follows:
a. For teacher
The teacher needs to use strategies or teaching methods during this
pandemic that can make students more motivated to like or interest in
learning English, especially in learning or mastering a lot of vocabulary
so that students can also overcome their difficulties.
b. For students
The students need to spend time learning so that their vocabulary is better.
c. The next researcher
For the next researcher, It is hoped that it can be a useful reference to add
information about student vocabulary mastery.
