Enhancing Drills in Teaching Pronunciation at The Tenth grade of SMAN 12 Bone

This is in the process of teaching and learning in the class there were a lot of
students who found some difficulties in learning English. One of difficulties
which faced by the students of SMAN 12 Bone was lack of correct pronunciation
skills. The data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method, To solve
the problem, the writer applied Chain Drill method. Chain Drill method was
method for teaching speaking (pronunciation) in which the students ask and
answer question and repeat part of the previous students answer to the information
concerning the proposed situation. The purpose of this study was to determine
whether there was an effect of enhancing drills in teaching pronunciation at the
tenth grade of SMAN 12 Bone in the academic year 2020/2021. The result of this
research, the researcher found learning pronunciation with the chain drill method
provides a positive responses and improves correct pronunciation of students
English speaking skills
A. Conclusion
Based on the result of finding and discussion in the previous chapter,
the researcher can take conclusion enhancing drills in teaching pronunciation
at the tenth grade of SMAN 12 Bone.
The implementation of students using the chain drill method in
teaching English pronunciation based on observation and interviews that
students like to use the chain drill method in learning, especially in teaching
pronunciation, which means that the assumption that the chain drill method
can provide a significant influnce on students pronunciation skills is correct.
B. Suggestion
After covering up the conclusions and the implementation of the
research, the researcher has some suggestion for the English teacher, students,
and the next researcher.
1. For the English teacher
a. Chain drill is a good method to be applied in the tenth
grade of SMAN 12 Bone to enhancing pronunciation.
b. The teacher should manage the class in order to make the
students focused in learning pronunciation using chain drill
method in the teaching and learning process.
c. Speaking activity should be enjoyable and stress free
because enjoyment and from free threatening situation will
increase students participants in speaking class.
2. For the students
a. The students should learn and be more active in
pronunciation English in other to develop their ability in
speaking English.
b. Students should not feel shy or nevous in speaking English.
Beside that, they do have to be afraid of making mistake
because making mistake is part of learning.
c. The students are too excited and make the class noisy. They
should be more serious and calm in learning pronuncition
by using chain drill method in order to develop and increase
their Engish pronunciation skills.
3. For the next researcher
In this research, the writer used Chain Drill method to
teach students of senior hihg school, especially in learning
pronunciation. Further writers can conduct this method on
different level of students and different of material. For
example in junior hihg school, they can apply in the asking and
giving opinion.
