Teacher And Students’ Perception Toward Learner Center Approach In Speaking Class (A Study At The Eleventh Grade Of SMAN 2 Bone

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of using the learner
center approach on the development of speaking skills in eleventh graders of
SMAN 2 Bone. This research was conducted by using qualitative methods
with observations and interviews. The subject of this study is SMAN 2 Bone,
especially grade eleventh. This study took 20 students, while the sample
selection was based on student activity in participating in learning to provide
accurate information in this study.
Based on qualitative data, students‟ actions in the learning process have
increased. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive influence on
students‟ speaking knowledge by using the learner center approach. At first,
the students‟ had difficulty speaking in English because of the lack of
vocabulary they did not have the adequate vocabulary. By using the learner
center approach they are trained and feel directly speaking more effectively
and even from there they can also increase and add vocabulary and improve
their pronunciation without the help of the teacher so as to improve students‟
speaking skills.
Based on observation and interviews, the results showes that the learner
center approach has many positive effects for students, such as students being
more motivated in learning, making it easier for students and find new
vocabulary. They also learn enthusiastically in teaching and learning and
learning activities.
A. Conclusion
The researched can conclude about the effect of using the learner center
approach on improving speaking in class XI SMAN 2 Bone. By using the learner
center approach students are able to increase their vocabulary and improve their
pronunciation, besides that they are more active and have confidence when speak
English. Because the use of this learner center approach in the learning process
can practice speaking skills and get direct experience when speaking English. And
this could said be that students feel addicted to speaking English. The learner
center approach can help improve students‟ skills in speaking English.
B. Suggestions
Based on the research result and conclusions in this study, the researcher
provides the following suggestions:
1. For students
Students should learn more by using the learner center approach and master
vocabulary and improve pronunciation, in order to develop their speaking
skills.
2. For teachers
The teachers should pay attention and provide guidance and motivation to
students in teaching and learning activities so that students are more
enthusiastic.
3. For researchers
For other researchers, this research can be a reference for making other
research related to this research, because this research gives good results.
Therefore, other researchers can develop and further refine this approach so
that it can increase enthusiasm in speaking.
