Distance Learning Based Instruction In Teaching English As A Foreign Language In Pandemic Era At Secondary Student

The purpose of this study was to determine the use of Distance Learning Based
Instruction in Teaching English as a Foreign Language in the Pandemic Era at
Seconday Student. This research was conducted with a qualitative design with
observation, interviews and documentation. The subject of this research is at
SMAN 3 Bone, especially class XI. The research sample was taken using
purposive sampling technique, the researcher took 20 students. The sample was
selected based on the ability and participation of students in the learning process.
So that it can provide accurate information about this researcher. This researcher
is observation, interview and documentation. The results showed that the use of
distance learning based instruction in teaching english as a foreign language in the
pandemic era gave unsatisfactory results during the learning process. From the
results of interviews conducted, both from teachers and students, each of them got
obstacles during the learning process. The teacher said that because learning was
not carried out face-to-face, students could not be fully controlled. Likewise,
when the teacher provides material to students, students have difficulty
understanding the material that the teacher conveys so that the learning outcomes
obtained are less than optimal. Students' motivation in learning is also lacking
because they cannot meet their friends at school, this has an effect on increasing
student enthusiasm for learning.
A. Conclusion
Based on the results of research conducted by the author on Distance learning
on teaching English as a foreign language the pandemic era at secondary student
at the twelfth grade in SMAN 3 Bone gives birth to its own problems and
constraints that inhibit the effectiveness of the learning process and this affects the
quality of education, the author can draw the conclusion that:
How to learn students of Class XII SMAN 3 Bone during the implementation
of distance learning in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic is in accordance with
Circular Letter No. 2 of 2020 and Circular Letter No. 3 of 2020 learning is done
with distance learning system by using digital e-learning application both in the
form of zoom application, google classroom, youtube, and whatsapp social media
that students are each student is required to review the material and do tasks that
have been delivered by gur English to be used as an assessment material for
students. This facilitates students' ability to think critically and train the ability to
utilize digital technology advances in an effort to respond to the COVID-19
pandemic and even able to respond to the Industrial Revolution 4.0 so that
learning conducted in 3 Bone High School no longer makes teachers as the main
subject (Teacher Centered Learning - TCL), but it is the learners who are the main
subjects (Student Centered Learning - SCL), This also affects education.
B. Suggestions
Based on the conclusions described above, there are several things.
Suggested by the author, including:
1. For the school, it provides various learning facilities for support the
Distance Learning process in subjects English in accordance with Circular
Letter Number 2 Year 2020 and Circular Letter No. 3 of 2020 and adjusted
with the kurikukum that occurs.
2. For Teachers of Islamic Religious Education, it is to improve the method
of learning is more interesting, especially in Distance learning like this that
can not be separated from various the obstacles that follow it and improve
the competence of teachers in English language learning process to be
more effective.
3. For students’, as for what to pay attention to, students must be more
diligent and increase their learning antuism during distance learning. To
further minimize the deterioration of English knowledge and skills,
practice as often as possible, students should pay attention to the material,
take assignments seriously, and should pay attention if given instruction to
improve all abilities not only in writing skills and get good responses and
grades.
4. For educational institutions that provide training to English teachers to be
able to apply learning in accordance with the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
5. For the researchers, because this research is still limited to the
implementation how students learn about distance learning (PJJ), the
researcher should then develop research on education similar to using
other variables or use a different point of view than the author does.
