This thesis presents research on error analysis in writing narrative texts in
class XI IPA 2 SMAN 2 Bone: A learner-centered method in English as a foreign
language classroom setting. This study uses a qualitative method. The sample
consisted of 9 students of SMAN 2 Bone. This study aims to determine the types
of students' errors in writing and the dominant types of errors made by students in
writing narrative texts.
This thesis is intended to find two problems. The first problem is to find
out the types of errors that students make in writing narrative texts. Based on the
results of the students' narrative text writing test, it was found that there were 6
types of errors, namely grammatical errors, spelling errors, punctuation errors,
capital letter errors, article errors, and prepositional errors. The second problem
was knowing the dominant types of errors made by students in writing texts.
narrative. Based on the observations of the field notes, the researchers found that
the dominant type of error made by students in writing narrative texts was
grammatical errors.
A. Conclusion
Based on the discussion, the researcher concludes the results of the
writing test of class XI IPA 2 students in writing narrative texts that
have been carried out and then analyzed based on the types of errors
made by students and the dominant types of errors made by students.
1. Types of errors made by students in writing narrative texts were
obtained from the results of students' writing test presentations,
namely, there are six types of errors. First, the most
grammatical errors made by each student were 42 errors, the
second was 15 spelling errors, the third was punctuation errors
with 9 errors, the fourth error was capital letter errors with 6
errors, the fifth error was article errors with 2 errors, and the
sixth error made by students is at least 1 error, namely a
preposition error.
2. The dominant types of errors made by students in writing
narrative text based on the researcher's findings during the
students' writing observation process, the researcher conclude
that each student who writes narrative text each makes a
3. different type of error, but the dominant error made by each
student in writing narrative text is a grammatical error.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusions above, the researcher advise all readers
and especially for teachers and students:
1. For teachers
Suggestions for teachers in considering suitable teaching
methods in writing classes. By analyzing students' writing, the teacher
should pay attention to some of the errors in writing to improve their
writing skills as in the grammatical errors the teacher should design a
good teaching method in using the verb form. This will make students
better understand how to use the correct verb intense.
2. For students
The students should learn more about English. Students should
improve their achievement, students should study more actively to
increase their vocabulary. So, students can easily improve all their
skills.
3. For other researchers
Especially for future researchers, it is better to start now to
learn about the research methodology and this research can be a
reference to make other research related to this research.
