The title of this research is the effectiveness of using WH-question to
improve the student speaking ability in story telling a study the first grade of SMAN
15 BONE. This study aimed to improve the student speaking ability through story
telling. This research used a quantitative method by pre-experimental design. The
participant of this research was 8 students of X IPA 2. The data collected by was
speaking test. It consisted of 10 items of question.The result of pre-test showed that
eight of students got poor score it means that students speaking ability still low. The
result of the test, showed that mean score of pre-test 28,75 and mean score of post-
test 70.00. Based on analyzed by using SPSS. The result of significancy test is 0,00 it
means that the null hypothesis (H ) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (H ) was
accepted, because the criteria H1 was accepted if the sig. (2-tailed) is 0,00
