The Use of Instagram as a Platform Education in Learning English for English Foreign Language (EFL) Students’ at Eleventh Grade of Man 2 Bone

This research was conducted to find out Efl students' perceptions of the
use of Instagram as a platform education in learning English. The approach of
research used qualitative research. This research used one class as participants
with five meetings at Eleventh grade of Man 2 Bone. Procedures for collecting
data include observation, interviews, and documentation. Then, the data analysis
uses textual analysis and content analysis to finish the research questions. Based
on findings of qualitative data, the students‟ interested in learning English by
using Instagram, find it easy and have no difficulty with understanding English
learning materials. The results show the use of Instagram as a platform education
in learning English for was seen more positively than negative comments, such as
students interested in accessing instagram because the topic was interesting and
students found a lot of new vocabulary on instagram. So, this builds a good mood
on students' feelings because they tend to get bored if they just listen to the
researcher or teacher. It was expected that the results of the study could raise
awareness and exercise cautious use of Instagram as a platform in learning
English for the benefit of the students. Although the students‟ get some
advantages, especially in their vocabulary, the structure of the Instagram platform
is still not good. But it can still be used to increase students‟ knowledge and
understanding of English. This platform still needs improvement. It could be a
note for the next researcher to apply and research this application intensely for
ability.
A. Conclusion
Based on the results of the analysis and discussion in the previous
chapter, the researcher concludes the following description:
a. Students' perceptions of The Use Instagram as a platform education in
learning english were seen more positively than negative comments such
as students interested in accessing instagram because the topic was
interesting and students found many new vocabularies in Instagram. So
that this builds a good mood on students' feelings because they tend to get
bored if they just listen to the researcher or the teacher.
b. EFL Students really need media as their learning strategy in English. the
use of media such as Instagram has a positive impact on them, especially
in improving their understanding and helping them recognize English
vocabulary and material. They assume that they are making progress while
learning by using Instagram. The use of Instagram must be supervised in
its use during the learning process because sometimes students use
Instagram for purely personal reasons such as updating stories and others,
of course this will have a negative impact on their English learning
process.
B. Suggestion
Based on the results of research, discussion and conclusions, the
researcher put forward the following suggestions:
i. For Man 2 Bone students, In basic knowledge of English, students need a
lot of practice and use some media that can help students learn English to
continue maintain and improve understanding of learning English.
ii. Teachers are expected to better understand the characteristics of each
participant students by using interesting and easy to apply media and of
course loaded on Smart phones such as Instagram so that students can
easily learn anywhere and anytime and provide motivation so that it will
encourage students to compete so that they can get better performance.
iii. For further researchers, researchers suggest to continue research
something similar is to add to the teacher's perception of the use of
Instagram for students because there may be different understandings of
how much should be involved when students learn a foreign language. In
addition, quantitative research can complement this research by increasing
the number of participants and if possible from different majors to provide
reliable data on the use of instagram by students, especially at the high
school level in Indonesia.

reliable data on the use of instagram by students, especially at the high
school level in Indonesia.
