This thesis presents about “perceiving the students’ barriers in learning
English at the second grade of MTs Baburrahman Waetuwo”. The objective of the
research is to know the students’ barriers in learning English. The participant of this
research is MTs Baburrahman Waetuwo, especially students of the second grade. The
sample of this research is 20 students of the second grade. This research used
descriptive qualitative. This research used questionnaire and interview as to answer to
collect the data. This research used Miles & Huberman in analyze the data that
include for step. The researcher found that the causal factors of students’ barriers in
learning English that are family, teacher and learning facility. Family is the first place
of child’s things learns. Teacher is person who changes the parents’ role when a child
is in the school. Learning facility also has role the success of students’ learning
because learning facility can enable the learning process to be more effective. The
result of the research shows that the dominant causal factor of students’ barriers in
learning English at the second grade of MTs Baburrahman Waetuwo from family. It
means that the family has not maximized their role in supporting, motivating, paying
attention and monitoring the development of the students’ English learning.
Therefore, the students are not aware and do not study it seriously.
A. Conclusion
Based on the result of questionnaire, the researcher draws conclusion of
the students’ barriers in learning English, the researcherfound that the causal
factors of students’ learningEnglish barriers focused on family, teacher and
learning facility.The parents have to keep paying attention of their children’s
education, including giving understanding of the importance of English, in order to
make them like interest in studying. It can be known that the role of family in
introducing knowledge, especially English language, is still lack. The English
teacher at MTs Baburrahman has been appropriate with the criteria of a figure of a
teacher, namely favorite attitudes towards pupils. It can be inferred that most of
students are inspired by their teacher to be able in English language. The students
expect to be like their teacher, who is excellent in English. learning facility has not
been sufficient yet for most of students. Therefore, the school should complete the
facilities to be more sufficient and also the classroom is a pleasant place for most
of students. The learning facilities in school should be improved because the
learning can be more effective if it is supported by facilities.
Based on the students’ interview, the researcher concludes that there are 6
barries faced by the students when learning English. They are lack of confidence
learning facility has not been sufficient yet for most of students. Therefore, the
school should complete the facilities to be more sufficient and also the classroom
is a pleasant place for most of students. The learning facilities in school should be
improved because the learning can be more effective if it is supported by facilities.
in learning English, lack in vocabulary, pronounciation, grammar, embarrassed,
and less in translating sentence. Mostly, the students get barriers in translate many
vocabulary. Many of them couldn’t reading also, less pronounciation because
ofconfidence in learning English. According to the result of students interview,
there are 8 students said that barriers in learning English, especially in connect one
word to another to be a good sentence.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion above, the researcher put some suggestion as follows:
1. Family should increase their monitoring to the students’ English learning.
2. School should make a meeting program which especially discusses the
development and improvement of the students’ learning.
3. School should make coordination with the family to give awareness of the
importance of in learning English.
4. School and the English teacher should build the awareness of the family and
the students that English text book, English dictionary and other media are
needed in order to get success and effective in learning.
