Developing Indonesian Young Learners' English Vocabulary Knowledge through Animation Videos as Instructional Learning Media
Dandi Saputra/02.17.4066 - Personal Name
This research aims to develop an understanding of the English vocabulary of
Indonesian junior high school students through animated videos as assisted learning
media. The research approach uses qualitative research. Data collection methods are
questionnaires and interviews. Then, the data analysis used content analysis to answer
the research questions.
Based on qualitative data, students' actions in the learning process have developed.
The results of the study show that there is a positive influence on students' ability to
develop their English vocabulary through animation videos as a medium of learning.
Students are directed to watch animation videos about specific English vocabulary,
such as fruit vocabulary, animal vocabulary, and body parts vocabulary. After seeing
the animation video, the students were then given the task of matching vocabulary
according to the video they had seen. Based on these results, it shows that the use of
animation videos in the process of teaching English vocabulary has many positive
effects for students, such as: students are interested and like to learn English
vocabulary through animation videos, make students easy to understand the material,
get encouragement for new ideas. , helps train and remember English vocabulary.
The students gain some advantages especially in their vocabulary, but the vocabulary
material in animation videos is still lacking and can still be added. However, the
animation videos can still be used to develop students' vocabulary. Animation videos
as vocabulary media that have been applied are still in need of improvement. This
could be a future study for future researchers to apply and research animation videos
to develop students' vocabulary knowledge.
A. Conclusion
Based on the results of the analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concludes the following description:
1. Animation videos as learning media can develop students' knowledge of
English vocabulary. This can be seen from the results of learning or
assignments during vocabulary learning through animation videos. Like
the individual task of matching the pictures, the average student gets a
satisfactory assignment result. Not only that but the increase in students
was also seen in group assignments where students retold the contents of
the animation videos with their group mates. This proves that learning
through animation videos can develop vocabulary knowledge of young
learners in Indonesia.
2. Students' perceptions of animation videos as a medium for learning
English vocabulary seem to have more positive comments than negative.
For example, it is easier for students to learn vocabulary through
animation videos, and students' vocabulary knowledge develops after
learning through animation videos.
B. Suggestion
In learning English, students need media that can help students learn English.
Students need media that is attractive and easy to apply and also easy to access on
devices such as smartphones so that students can learn easily anywhere and
anytime. One of the media that can be applied is animation video. However,
researcher still recommend any other learning media that helps students in
learning.
