Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension through TOEFL Reading Text at the Tenth Grade of MA Al-Junaidiyah Biru Bone

This thesis presents research to improving the Students' Reading
Comprehension through TOEFL Reading Text at the Tenth Class of MA Al-
Junaidiyah Biru Bone. This research uses quantitative methods. The sample of this
study amounted to 15 students from class X IPS MA Al-Junaidiyah Biru Bone. The
researcher gave a pre-test, treatment and post-test to students regarding the TOEFL
reading text.The results of this study indicate that there is a significant increase in
student learning achievement after being given treatment. The meanings obtained by
students at the pre-test of students were 49.46 while after treatment and post-tests, the
mean obtained by students increased to 60.13. Based on the results of the student's T-
Test, the standard error of the mean obtained was 5.853665 more than the standard
error of the mean students after the post-test, which was 4.431346. Other results show
that students have a high asking for TOEFL reading text because they are motivated
to study abroad.According the data obtained, it can be concluded that the use of the
TOEFL reading text can significantly improve students’ reading comprehension at
the tenth class of MA Al-Junaidiyah Biru Bone.
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and discussion above, the researcher comes to
conclusion. They are as follows:
1. The use TOEFL reading text is effective to improving the students’ reading
comprehension of the tenth class of MA Al-Junaidiyah Biru Bone Academic
Year 2018/2019 and using TOEFL text can make students’ enjoy to does the
exercises because they too study and trick to answer it. This research was carried
out in eight meeting (pre-test, treatment, and post-test) and it was successful.
2. The students’ have high motivation to study about TOEFL reading text, because
they want to get a high score in English lessons.
B. Suggestion
In view of the fact that the method of improving students’ reading
comprehension through TOEFL Test has been proved to be effective, the researcher
would like to give suggestion as follow:
1. For the English teacher must be creative in managing material that must be
integrated into the classroom.
2. For the students’ have high motivation to study about TOEFL reading text,
because they want to get a high score in English lessons
3. For further researchers, please make a new method for improving reading
comprehension of students, because the tenth grade of MA Al-Junaidiyah Biru
Bone students always like unique methods for learning.
