Improving Students’ Vocabulary Mastery by Using Word of the Day Media at the Second Grade School of SMP Negeri 6 Bone

This script presents a research about Word of the Day Media Strategies to
improve the students vocabulary at the second grade students of SMPN 6 Bone. The
objective of this research is to find out whether or not the Word of the Day Media
strategy could improve the vocabulary of the secend grade students of SMPN 6
Bone. The method used in this research is pre- experimental method which consists
of two tests. The test was about vocabulary test. Sample of this research was the
second grade students of SMPN 6 Bone with total sample 20 students. The result of
data analysis showed that Word of the Day media strategy can improve the students
vocabulary mastery at the second grade students of SMPN 6 Bone. It can be seen in
t-test value was higher than t-table (7.880 > 1.725). Based on the fact above, it can be
stated that Word of the Day Media could improve the students vocabulary mastery at
the second grade students of SMPN 6 Bone.
A. Conclusion
Based on the data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concluded that using application Word of the Day as a media in
teaching improving students‟ vocabulary mastery. After using Word of the Day
media, there was a significance difference in students‟ teaching vocabulary. It can
be proved by seeing the mean score and total score of pre-test and post-test. The
mean score of pre-test was 69,25 and total score of pre-test was 1.385. While, the
mean score of post-test was 83,75 and total score of post-test was 1.675.
Furthermore, the t-test result showed 7,880 which was < significance degree
(0,05). It indicated that H1 was accepted and H0 wasrejected. It means that there
was a significant different the students‟ teaching vocabulary in pre-test and post-
test after giving treatments through Word of the Day.
In conclusion, the uses of Word of the Day as a media in teaching English
can improv students‟ vocabulary mastery at the second grade of SMP 6 Bone.
B. Suggestion
In improving students vocabulary mastery, the researcher give some
suggestion as follow:
1. Suggestion for the teacher
a. The teacher should apply the Word of the Day Media in teach vocabulary in
the class.
b. The teacher should pay attention to the difference of the students
achievement in vocabulary mastery.
c. The teacher should give much time to the students to explore their
vocabulary.
d. English teacher should be more creative, selective and innovative in
selecting and presenting teaching material especially in vocabulary.
e. In enriching vocabulary, the teacher should always motivate the students to
always open their smartphone.
f. The teacher at last should give a colorful condition when they teach their
students.
2. Suggestion for students
a. The students shouldn‟t worried or be shy to speak in front of the class even
though they have some mistake in pronounce the words.
b. The students have to use the time to speaking for explore their vocabulary
that they had been knew.
c. The students need a good mood to learn cvocabulary so they can memorize
well the vocabulary was given.
