Describing The Lecturer And Students Activities In Teaching and Learning EFL Context At The Fourth Semester Of English Study Program IAIN Bone

The purpose of this study are: (1) To find out the activities of lecturers in teaching and learning process; (2) Knowing student activities in teaching and learning process; IAIN Bone in the context of EFL.

This research is a type of qualitative research. The approach used in this study is to use a descriptive research approach with research subjects being lecturer and students in IAIN Bone. Data collection used in this study is observation and interview. Observation is used to obtain data about the process of teaching and learning activities in the classroom, interview is used to obtain data about the teaching and learning activities of lecturer and students in the EFL context. Data analysis techniques used are qualitative data analysis techniques.

The results of this study indicate that English lecturer is at IAIN Bone in developing materials and methods in accordance with the standards competency, has differentiated the individual abilities of students and already making material interesting to learn. But the value of satisfaction has not been fulfilled because the learning objectives have not been fully mastered by students and the limited time provided by the curriculum makes students limited in receiving material from lecturers and lack of student activity in finding their own references outside the lecture schedule. In developing the method the lecturer has considered the nature of the teaching material, the classroom situation, and the weaknesses and advantages of the method that will be applied.
A. Conclusion Learning style in teaching and learning EFL context is to provide a detailed
explanation of the activity or process of giving and receiving learning material about
English as a foreign language that is used in the world of education from lecturer as
educator to students as participant in classroom of teaching or learning process.
According to the results of study, teaching strategy in teaching and learning
EFL context at the fourth semester of English Study Program IAIN Bone are:
1. The lecturer start the class by explaining the previous material or giving the
opportunity to students to explain the material beforehand.
2. The lecturer only give an explanation or directs the material to be studied, then
student actively search for additional material from various media and share with
their friends.
3. Sometimes lecturer provide explanations about learning material if there are
students who do not understand.
4. Lecturer usually uses games to make the class atmosphere interesting.
5. If the time of class learning is felt less by the lecturer, then the lecturer gives extra
classes outside the schedule of the course.
6. Before the time ends, lecturer reviews the material by giving students some
question, provides additional tasks, provides direction or explanation that is easier
to understand, and gives motivation to all students.
7. Last, lecturer never distinguish between intelligent students and less intelligent
students.
B. Suggestion
Realize that the researcher is far from perfect because there is nothing
perfect in this world. From the results of this study there are several suggestions that
can be used for improvement of learning and research processes related to this
material, including:
1. It is recommended to the campus to provide additional time in the teaching and
learning process so that the learning objectives that have been designed by the
lecturer can be achieved optimally.
2. The lecturers should approach students to knowing the characteristics and level of
intelligence, so there are no students with low intelligence, the achievement of
students lags behind other. Lecturer is also expected to provide more motivation
to students so that they are more enthusiastic about increasing their time to study
at home.
3. The selection of the model of tracking and also the method used for more adapted
to the learning material and also the state of the student.
4. Students should seek their own study time outside the schedule of courses such as
looking for references from various media and group learning so as not to rely too
much on the lecturer. Students are expected to increase their time to study at
home. Also expected not only to like one or two lessons in speaking but for all
interesting subjects. enjoy all the subjects, don't make it all a burden. Remember
your initial goals if learning motivation decreases.
5. The researcher also suggested maintaining good communication between
lecturers and students as well as mutual respect.
6. For further research, the teacher and students should be more active improved to
get more detailed learning.
