Febrianti/. 02.17.4003 - Personal Name
This research aims to show that the level of reading comprehension can be
improved through the application of narrative poetry. This type of research
involved 10 students of the eight grades of SMPN 1 Kajuara and was conducted in
two cycles. Cycle I consists of four meetings and cycle II consists of two
meetings. This research is a classroom action research (CAR). The data were taken
from giving test questions to determine the level of students reading
comprehension skills by applying narrative poetry. Researchers also used
observation techniques to obtain data about student activities in learning recorded
by collaborators as well as students participation in the learning process.
Researchers also use the documentation to support and obtain information related
to learning English in general.
The results of the research showed that the students mean score in reading
comprehension was 59,5 in the pre-test. Mean score of students in the post-test
cycle I was 47 and the mean score of students in the post-test cycle II was 29,5.
These results illustrate that the application of narrative poetry to the reading
comprehension of the eight grades of students at SMPN 1 Kajuara cannot improve
students reading comprehension skills due to several internal and external factors.
A. Conclusion
Based on the presentation of data and data analysis described in chapter III,
the researcher can finally provided conclusions about the application of narrative
poetry to reading comprehension of grade VIII E students at SMPN 1 Kajuara as
follows:
1. The mean score of the students' pre-test on reading comprehension was
59.5 which was categorized into a low level, and the average post-test
score of the students in the first cycle was 47 which was categorized into a
lower level, and the average score in the post test cycle II is 29.5 which is
categorized into a very low level.
2. There is no influenced or improvement on students' reading comprehension
with the application of narrative poetry in class VIII E of SMPN 1 Kajuara.
This can be seen from the results of the student's average score in each
cycle has decreased.
B. Suggestion
Based on the research results and conclusions in this study, the researcher
provides the following suggestions:
1. For students
Students should practice more in reading, especially reading
comprehension, because by reading and understanding the contents of a
reading, students will find it easy to achieve learning goals. By learning
reading comprehension, students can easily answer English test
questions such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, and the like. English
reading omprehension is also a test for entry into global companies.
This shows how important it is for students to learn and master
Reading comprehension.
Students should be more serious in receiving material and in doing
assignments.
Must pay more attention to the teacher when given instructions
2. For Teachers
Teachers should provide motivation and guidance to students in
teaching and learning activities so that students are more enthusiastic and
interested in learning.
3. For further researchers
Because in this study the results were not significant or did not
experience an increase in students 'reading comprehension with the application
of narrative poetry, therefore it is hoped that other researchers will research
with other methods or ways that can affect or improve students' reading
comprehension skills.
