The objective of this study is to increase the students writing skill by using
Engage,study,active (ESA) method to the tenth grade of SMAN 9 Bone in academic
year 2021. The design of the study is pre-experimental study. The subjects of the
research were 25 students of tenth grade X MIPA1 at SMAN 9 Bone. There were one
type of data is quantitative data. The quantitative data were collected through
assessing the students’ writing skill by means of the pre-test and post-test. The data
were the students’ written test scores. The validity of the data was obtained by using
SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science). The result of the research finding,
ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) Method can increase the students’ writing skill, It can
be seen by the increase of students’ mean score before and after giving the pre- test
and post- test. The mean of pre- test score is 72.1600 and it increases to 75.3600 in
post- test. The implementation ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) method is not only
increasing students’ mean score but also increasing students’ motivate. The students
are more active, enthusiastic, and enjoy the teaching and learning process.
A. CONCLUSION
This research was conducted at the tenth grade students in class X MIPA1 of
SMAN 9 Bone. The research was conducted on september to october 2021
consist of implementing the action and give a test, and also provide the pre-test
and the post test. Based on the result above of the research finding, the
conclusion can be drawn as follows:
ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) method can increase students’ writing skill. It
can be seen by increasing of students’ mean score before and after implementing the
Engage Study Active Method to increase writing skill through pre- test and post-
test. The mean score of pre- test score is 72.1600 and it increases in 75.3600, in post-
test.
Beside that the implementation of ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) teaching
method does not only increase students’ mean score but also increases students’
motivate. The students are more active, enjoy and alive during learning process. It
can be seen that the students are brave to raise their hand when the researcher asked
them to answer the questions. Where as before, they are shy and if the researcher give
questions no body one students answered. Besides that, the students are always
enthusiastic to learning English. They are very enthusiastic when the researcher
come.
B. SUGGESTION
After covering up the conclusions and the implications of the research, the
researcher has some suggestions for the English teachers and further researchers to be
considered.
1. For English Teachers
In the process of teaching and learning English, especially writing, the
teachers should be creative in selecting the strategy and the method that can use in
English teaching in order to make the students interesting and enjoyable. The Engage
Study Active method is recommended for teaching and learning writing. The students
will be active participant in the class and it makes students confident to share their
ideas. Furthermore, English Teacher should more understand the condition of their
student, if the students in the classroom are bored with the teacher’s technique or
Method. the teacher has to find out the appropriate method or technique.
2. For Further Researchers
Further researcher should give contribution in conducting the researcher
especially about writing skill. This research is one of the ways in increasing students’
writing skill. It is expected that the findings will be used as starting points to conduct
another research. They are many other technique or method to make teaching and
learning process more effective.
