The Effectiveness of Teaching Know, Want, Learned, and How (KWLH) Reading Technique toward Students’ Reading Skill at the Eleventh Grade of MAN 2 Bone.

This research was conducted about “The Effectiveness of Teaching Know,
Want, Learned, and How Reading Technique toward Students Reading Skill at the
Eleventh Grade of MAN 2 Bone”. The objective of this research was to find out
whether KWLH reading technique improved students’ reading skill in analytical
exposition text or not. In conducting this research, the writer used pre-experimental
design. The sample of this research was selected by using use purposive sampling.
The population of this research is 257 students of eleventh grade of MAN 2 Bone.
The sample of this research is 20 students of eleventh grade IBB. The students were
given treatments by using KWLH technique. Data of the students’ test analyzed by
using SPSS 25 application. The result of this research showed that mean of the
students’ post-test score was 69.40 higher than pre-test was 53. The writer inferred
that the students reading skill has significance improvement by using KWLH
technique
A. Conclusions
Based on the data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the writer
concludes the result of this research shows that teaching analytical exposition text
using KWLH strategy significantly improves the students’ reading skill. It can be
seen of the students of XI IBB 1 at MAN 2 Bone that the most of students get poor
score classification with mean score of students’ pre-test is 52,80. The students’
reading skill after applying KWLH technique is significantly improve, it is showed
by the data that most of students get pain classification with mean score of students’
post-test is 67.
B. Suggestions
In view of the fact that KWLH technique had been proved to improve the
students’ reading skill especially in analytical exposition text, the reseacher would
like to give suggestions as follows:
1. The teacher should be creative to manage the material and the classroom for
teaching reading such as KWLH technique. Also the education system needs
them to improve the teaching skill according to the up to date technology. Now
days, the internet is widely used by lots of people. There are many websites that
can be accessed to get new technique in teaching. The equipment also should be
sophisticated and functioned perfectly to the students in class.
2. The teacher could use KWLH technique as references technique in teaching
reading. Therefore, the students were always stimulate the students’ interest and
motivate them in learning reading. The teacher should be creative in applying
new technique or methods for students to improve their reading skill. The
students of XI IBB 1 at MAN 2 Bone have to improve their ability in English.
3. The other researcher is suggested that other researcher may use the research
results as information or a reference to conduct the research with the similar
topic in the same design to improve the students’ reading skill with different
subject.
