The Effect of Using Poster Comment Method Towards Writing Descriptive Text for The Eleventh Grade

The objectives of this research were to find out the students’ problems in writing
descriptive text before implementing poster comment method and also the effect of
using poster comment method related to the students’ responses in writing
descriptive text. The sample of this research was the eleventh grade of IPA 1. In
doing this research, the researcher applied mix research method approach with
exploratory sequential design. The first research step was done by using interview
and selected four students as sample. By using purposive sampling, the researcher
got informations about the students’ problems in writing descriptive text before
implementing poster comment method, they were lack of vocabulary, difficult to
put ideas that cross their mind in the form of good and correct words, and
problems faced in arranging words into a sentence or even a paragraph, as well as
still difficult to find ideas to start writing text. After doing the interview, the
researcher gave treatments by applying poster comment method. Then the step
after treatments was giving the questionnaire based on the Likert scale with 25
students as sample. The statements of the questionnaire related to the use of poster
comment method. The researcher got the results of the questionnaire that the use
of poster comment method gave effect on the students’ writing descriptive text.
The statement support by the final result of questionnaire was 72% or 18 students
got very high classification, and 28% or 7 students got high classification score.
A. Conclusion
Based on the first research question, the final result of this research shows
that most of the students still found problems related to the lack of vocabulary that
students had, it made it difficult for students to form a phrase up to the sentence. In
addition, the researcher also found that students still find it difficult to put ideas that
cross their mind in the form of good and correct words it could be due to lack of
reading so that there were still few references to the form of good paragraphs owned
by students, there were also problems faced by students in arranging words into a
sentence or even a paragraph, as well as still difficult to find ideas to start writing
text.
While based on the second research question about the students’ responses
related to the use of poster comment method was effective the students in writing
descriptive text. This result was evidenced by it found that out of 25 students, 100%
or totally 25 students had claimed that using poster comment method was effective
the students’ writing descriptive text. It proved by the result of the frequency and
percentage of students’ score in questionnaire showed that 72% or 18 students got
very high classification, 28% or 7 students got high score.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion above, the researcher put some suggestion as
follows:
1. For Teacher
The teacher should give the students more space to pay attention the
material in the class with some considerations. Firstly, identify the character of
students whether they are shy or confident enough. Secondly, the teacher should
give more material which deals with the students’ knowledge background. It aims
to engage students’ understanding in learning. The teacher could assign the
students to explore more resource of English in internet.
2. For Students
Students should be aware that writing skills are skills that are not easy to
master besides there must also be special mastery for vocabulary and grammar
specifically so as to produce quality writing. One way that can be forged is by
increasing the practice both in the learning process and at home.
The students are supposed to maximize the technology to make all
simpler. They have the handphone, so they can use it to serve the material such as
how to write a good descriptive text.
3. For Researcher
For the future to prospective researchers who want to do research on
effective learning methods to improve writing skills, can make this research as a
reference. in addition, researchers also hope that prospective researchers can
produce better work in the future.
