A Translation Analysis on Students’ Narrative Texts at State Vocational School 7 of Bone

English is known as a foreign language in Indonesia. To know and hold
English in Indonesia, of course, by doing a translation. In vocational school, English
is one of the subjects taught, there are Narrative text material. In order for students to
master the meaning of this text in English, they must translate from Indonesian to
English. Students who have done the translation process certainly know the cause of
the difficulties that occur when they do the translation. Especially word class
translations. The researcher uses qualitative research qualitative approach, and
content analysis research methodology. The content analysis in this research is
conversation analysis.
The researcher did the observations is the aim of finding difficulties
experienced by students, related wirth the teaching and learning process and taking
students' value data from the value of the task of translating narrative text. The
purpose of this observation is to get students who can be interviewed. This is called
the purposve sampling technique. From these observations, the researchers found 7
students who were indicated to have difficulty translating, with difficulty in
translation namely the word class. The researcher then interviewed the 7 students by
asking 31 questions that had been divided into several categories.
From the above research the researcher found that the difficulty experienced
by students in vocational schools when translating was translating word classes. Of
the 7 students interviewed, researchers found that the biggest factor causing them to
feel difficulty translating word classes was a factor internal students'.
A. Conclusions
Based on the results of research and discussion, it can be with drawn
conclusion as follows:
1) The difficulty experience by students in learning English in the 11MM-3 class
at SMKN 7 Bone is the difficulty in translating word classes. Students often
misinterpret word classes in writing even though they have studied them before.
2) Factors that cause students get difficulties, namely internal factors and external
factors.
(a) Internal factors:
(1) Students have difficulties in remembering lessons due to lack of
motivation to learn.
(2) Students have bad learning habits.
(3) Students could not maximize their study time.
(4) Students are not serious about taking lessons from their teacher in the
class.
(b) External factors:
(1) Teacher lack innovation in instructional media.
(2) Teacher use teaching method that gives more assignment to students.
So, from some of the difficulties factors experiences by students, the most
factors make students’ difficulties of translating narrative text at the eleventh grade at
SMKN 7 Bone is internal factors.
B. Suggestions
1. For Learners
Students should have hours of study that are balanced with the
organization so that the organization does not take up study time at home.
2. For Teacher
Teachers should teach English in a variety that is consistent with the
theory of learning English along with the use of teaching aids that can
increase student motivation.
