An Analysis of Students Error in Paraphrasing Text at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 18 Bone

The main purpose of the research is to analyse the kinds of students’ errors
in paraphrasing descriptive test.The research method used qualitative method, which
the researcher wants to analyze the kinds of students’ errors in paraphrasing
descriptive text. To collect the data, the researcher used test and documentation. The
analysis of the data used collect the data, data reduction, data display, and conclusion
drawing. The subject of research is the eleventh grade students of SMAN 18 Bone.
The researcher chooses 15 students for this research. With technique used by
researcher to collect the data is trancendental realism by Matthew B. Miles A.
Michael Huberman.The result of the study, as follow: The students contributed the
four kinds of students’ error in term of paraphrasing text were: 1. Capitalization error
there are 25 errors, 2. Grammatical error there are 23 errors , 3. Spelling error there
are 10 errors and 4. Punctuation error there are 5 errors.
A. Conclusion
This research collected some important information from the eleventh grade
students of SMAN 18 Bone in students’s error in paraphrasing.Based on findings of
the research, it could be concluded that the kinds of error in paraphrasing that
occurred in students’paraphrasing text were: 1) Capitalization error (25), 2)
Grammatical error (23) , 3) Spelling error (10) and 4) Puntuation error (5).
B. Suggestion
Based on the research that was carried out, the researcher would like to give
some suggestion to the teacher of English and to the students:
1. The English Teachers
Based on this research, it can be suggested that the teachers should be
aware on paraphrasing errors. thus they can recognize their students’ difficulties in
paraphrasing so they will pay more attention to the errors made by the students and
the causes of the errors in paraphrasing. Knowing the problem will make it easier
for teachers to solve the problem. The result of the research will evaluate
themselves whether they are succesfull or not in teaching English. It is expected
that the teacher should enhance the method in teaching writing expeciali about
paraphrasing so that the students are motivated to improve their paraphrasing.
2. The English learners
It is better to know about this research , particularly related to
capitalization error, grammatical error, spelling error and punctuation error.The
result of the research will show the learners in what types in paraphrasingwhich is
difficult for them. By paying more attention, the learners are expected to increase
their knowledge on the paraphrasing, thus they will be aware of the errors they
made and sources of the errors. The learners are expected to develope their
paraphrasingproficiency to eliminate or at least reduce those errors.
3. To the other Researcher
It is expected that the result of the research can give an informative input
about paraphrasing error analysis or other topics related to errors. The researcher
believes that there are still many phenomena that can be revealed in this research.
The researcher expects that this result of research can inspire other researchers to
conduct the research related to translation errors analysis to enrich the existing
research.
