The objective of this study is to improve speaking ability by using Silent Way
method to the tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Bone academic year 2020/2021. The
design of the study is pre-experimental study. The subjects of the research were 25
students of grade X at SMAN 7 Bone. There were one type of data is quantitative
data. The quantitative data were collected through assessing the students’ speaking
ability by means of the pre-test and post-test. The data were the students’ oral test
scores. The validity of the data was obtained by using SPSS (Statistical Package for
the Social Science). The data of the test which were in the form of the gained score
was analyzed by using t-test with the significant level of p=0,05. In the pre-test, mean
score is 56.80, and mean score in post-test is 71.68. From the mean score between
pre-test and post-test look difference value, the result shows that the post-testwas
better than pre-test. The result of significance test (t-test) post-test control class and
experimental class is 0,02
